Well, I was outside for many hours today, so I wore my campaign hat to keep the sun off, in spite of the fact that it gives me a headache due to the stiff brim and sweatband. And I wore it at a tilt that would have made even AbbaDatDeHat proud. ;)
Total tally for the day was as follows...
I'm sure there's a reason, but I agree with David, I don't care for the look. I do admit that it looks more professional, when a uniformed person wears it that way, but it still looks a bit goofy to me. The best way I can describe it is like the furry hats the guards wear at Buckingham...
I appreciate the photos and your opinion on it. In looking closer, I don't believe my Slouch has that wire in it. I do, on the other hand, think my Cattleman does. I've been trying to shrink the size of my Akubra collection (without success). If I keep my Cattleman I might do the same.
I may do the same thing, provided my hat even has the wire in it. One of my Slouch hats I've tried stretching and steaming on more than one occasion, and it still won't get quite loose enough for me to find comfortable. And although I have tried selling it in the classified section, the price...
I'm starting to get serious about having a couple vent grommets installed in an Akubra or two. It's not a task I want to take on myself, and I'm wondering if anyone here has suggestions of places to get it done. I already checked with both David Morgan and Akubra, and they won't. I tried to...
Awesome photos, and a family history to be very proud of. Thanks for sharing!
The very narrow pinched center crease with side dents, as seen in the first photo, seems to have been a very popular style. When you see photos of Australian soldiers in WWII, their slouch hats are almost always in...
Good call, that's exactly what it looks like. Interesting that the acorns predate the "non-acorn" hat. I didn't realize they'd been around for so long on the campaign hat.
And speaking of hats in movies (at least I was), the newer remake of the Humphry Bogart classic, "Sahara", with Jim...
I recently watched "They were Expendable", one of my favorite John Wayne WWII movies, and I'd forgotten how many scenes there were of Marines wearing campaign hats in that movie. What I did find particularly interesting was the lack of forward rake. The movie was shot during WWII, and so I'm...
Merry Christmas (belated)! :D
I’ve got a quick question for the Akubra crowd... Lots of the YouTube videos and forum posts I read mention raising the crown so it doesn’t contact the top of your head. Is this strictly a comfort thing? The reason I ask is that I actually find it more...
Hello all, I'm selling my almost brand new Akubra Slouch hat. I've only owned it for a few months, and only worn it for about 4 days, on a cruise. It is still in like new condition, except for some slight soiling on the Akubra label inside the crown, which is also peeling off a little.
The...
Sorry, it was just an off-topic musing. Just another example of how even though something may not make much sense, once it gets drilled into you enough, it's tough to change. We were taught never to carry anything in our "gun hand", because that hand couldn't be distracted from it's primary...
Growing up the only hat etiquette I knew was to remove it during a prayer, the National Anthem (unless in a military uniform and saluting), or the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. Fast forward to my late 20's, and in the police academy it was drilled into me that the second you break the...
I hadn't realized I was almost exactly quoting Steur's compliment, it just goes to show you, great minds think alike. :D
But seriously, it's a great look for you, and you wear it well. And you're right about it looking good with a suit.
