    MA-1 Flight jacket

I have an older Alpha Industries Blue MA-1 ( made in Knoxville, TN) that needs replacement cuffs. Can anyone suggest where to get 100% wool repair and replacements? I can provide photos if needed. Thanks, Dick

"Headwind Mfg. Co A-1 Flight Jackets

OK, thanks much - the stock photos appear very high quality especially in comparison to the higher end choices. Just need to decide on Cape Skin or Goat...they said they could do goat no additional cost - just want it to be soft but yet durable.

    Headwind Mfg Co A1 Jacket

After searching for a "reasonably" priced accurate and well constructed example of the A1 " Headwind Manufacturing Co". appears to be a good choice. If anyone has any experience or knowledge of them please let me know what you think. I also liked the "Bronson A1" but apparently they aren't...

The final product didn't turn out too badly. I enjoyed the experience but there's a few things I'd do differently if I make another. I'd like a bit higher crown and lighter color but overall I'm pretty satisfied. I had the the brim stitched Monday - (first row could have been further from the...

The brim has been cut down from 3.5" all around to 3.0" sides and 2-3/4" sides. Brass vents were subdued with gun blue and rubbed off then the ribbon hat band and bow added. The bow was time consuming figuring it out at first but I enjoyed learning how to do it. During the process of sewing it...

The center is 5-3/4, the rear 5", and a little forward slope to the crease brings the front to about 4". The shape may be subject to change but I think it looks good for now - not sure what I'll so about the vents yet. I thought the ribbon would show up today, but maybe tomorrow. I'll be...

My eBay 3X felt Resistol arrived this morning. The color is a little dark but it may fade lighter. During the period they may were probably inconsistent anyway. I reformed to what best portrayed the SAW period. Holes were measured and cut for the grommets and test fit. Not certain if I'll go...

Thaks, I'm not certain how long the process will take but I plan make the transition as close to an original as possible. If anyone knows what material the original ribbon was made out of I'd like to try and find some. Been looking at eBay for 5/8" cross grain tan silk, cotton or satin...

I've found a hat I think will possibly lend itself to modifying into a M1899 SAW campaigner. Looking for the proper ribbon and will trim the brim from 3.5" to 3.0". Then, three rows of stitching. It's a used Restistol from eBay...

It's good to finally see some interest. I though maybe I must have arrived too late for the party. I have a passion for SAW Campaign Hats for some reason and have been looking for a proper repro. I tried James, at Eurika Arsenal for almost a year. ...seems like a great guy but received no real...
