Yes that is what I had read regarding the hemp running big, some online retailers even suggest sizing down on the hemps. In my (limited) experience the hemp fits the same as the shantung. My only non-straw is a vintage stetson which seems to fit about the same as the new straws. -

Hi James, I know it's been a few years since you posted, but I am looking for the same thing you were, smaller proportioned western summer hat.
