Period correct? How old is the jacket?
I just buy a leather strap on ebay from zisa leather. 1 3/4 wide would probably be better than 1 1/2. And then get a matching buckle from landco317. They have them in 1 3/4 and 1 1/2. Here's the link for 1 1/2...
I found a real good one on armynavysales. https://www.armynavysales.com/amish-leather-super-duty-belt.html
$35 but they do charge shipping. It was so good that I got a second one. Swapped out the buckle for a nice silver colored brass buckle made in Taiwan from landco317 on ebay. Couldn't be...
Depends on what you want. New or used. Moto or military style. I guess if you don't really know what you want, maybe used is better. That way, you waste less money finding out what you really like.
If you know what you want, like if you want a leather flight jacket, Cockpit USA sells the A2 for...
I thought about getting the Highway Star when looking for a center zip. Price was a big turn off for me though. 1,200 pounds. So that's like $1,550 U.S. right? I moved on to other center zips like Cockpit USA's Midnight Rider and Legendary USA Beck 777.
I've worn this jacket maybe a half dozen times so far since I got it at the end of summer last year. The leather seems a bit thinner than my Schott Perfecto 618. So maybe it's 2.5 oz leather. it's advertised as medium thickness. This is horsehide of course, not cowhide. I don't know if all...
That's great advice, for sure. Applicable to anyone who doesn't have an unlimited budget.
Still, I do find myself going for "second tier" often. Or just settling for less than the best, simply because "the best" leather jackets are at such ridiculous price levels that I don't know if I'll ever...
Yeah, I like to joke that most of us on this forum need psychiatric help. But just like the movie "This is Spinal Tap", the joke is so close to the truth that it almost makes you want to cry.
I usually stand inside of a museum case when wearing mine.
All right, sorry, I just couldn't resist! Yeah, what a quandary. Fortunately for me, I don't have any vintage hard to replace jackets. The closest thing to it would be my Schott Perfecto that's over 25 years old. I used to baby it...
I think it looks pretty good. Fit is perfect except a little short. Definitely not silly, still very wearable. Are you over 6 feet tall? Do they make that in a long size? If you were a motorcycle cop who wanted an "above the gun belt" jacket, that would be just right.
I'm sorry to hear that. The pictures of the Black Stallion jacket didn't look quite right to me. I never seriously considered it. I think they're selling it now for half off. Which tells me that nobody is buying it.
The two Beck jackets that I got are really good (777 and the 501 Trucker). At least I like them very much. A discerning connoisseur may have issues with them, who knows. They seem very comparable in quality to my Schott Perfecto 618, which I've had for over a quarter century. I haven't bought...
I didn't know this before I got my Beck jackets from Legendary last fall. I did a complaint search about them before ordering and didn't see anything too bad. That thread must've been before I joined here, but I didn't turn it up in my searches.
If Sears still made leather jackets like that, then maybe they wouldn't be one step away from bankruptcy and oblivion. Just too damn bad. Lousy management has destroyed Sears. All the Sears stores near me are now gone. Their website is truly atrocious. Takes forever to load and can't find...
Legendary USA has a new Beck horsehide cross-zip. I ordered one and got a big discount off the regular price. We'll see what turns up. I have a couple of other horsehide Beck jackets from Legendary USA. Made in USA, fantastic quality at unbelievable prices. They don't take a back seat to any...
I think the cross zip is definitely more durable for daily wear and casual. But the A2 is more versatile. The military look goes with anything and everything, and you can dress up or down with an A2.
The one thing that has kept me from getting an A2 is the elastic waistband and the sleeve ends...
But gentlemen, aren't we getting a wee bit off the point here? The OP wanted to know about lesser known cross zips. Here's my 2c:
Cross zips come in many different configurations, but it all comes down to whether they have shoulder epaulets, a "D" pocket, a coin pocket, and a half belt or full...
Thanks. I see from the reviews that you're supposed to just buy your pant size. But still there are opinions all over the place. One guy says they run small, so buy one size larger. Another one says buy your pant size or even one size smaller.
I suspect that's from the personal preference of...
