    MacArthur's corn cob pipe

Don't know if this is the best place in The Lounge to post this, but.... Internet search and looking thru the index of "American Caesar" haven't turned up any info, so I'm asking here; Anyone know how General Douglas MacArthur got started smoking his signature corn cob pipe?

    MacArthur's hat

The other night I caught a rerun of the 1977 Gregory Peck classic "MacArthur." Got me to wondering why MacArthur's wheel cap was all embroidered insignia? I can't say I've ever seen any photos of any other US army generals wearing one like that. Anyone know? Any other wheel caps I've seen...

    Techniques for waxing/shining leather wear?

I've been shining/waxing my leather footwear for years. And I used to annually apply musk oil to my leather jackets just before the start of the off-season so it would have all summer to soak in. But, I'm curious; what are my fellow loungers' techniques for caring for leather boots, shoes and...

    The Monuments Men

Tough call which area of TFL to post this in WW2 or "The Silver Screen," but since the movie's about WW2, I'm tossing it here. Bartender, if you need to move it, I unnastand. Anyway; saw a preview for "The Monuments Men" tonight (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2177771/) about a team of art...

    Dick Tracy, 1990

OK.... I realize the flick isn't really Golden Era (far from it). But, I caught a rerun of the 1990 Warren Beatty - Madonna "Dick Tracy" movie which WAS set in the 1930s-1940s. I'd forgotten what a great movie that was - writing, acting, sets, costume/makeup etc. Enjoyed watching it again...

    Old gas stations

Not exactly the '30s and '40s, but pretty close and still vintage enough. It's fun looking at the old cars in the photos. THE “GOOD OLD DAYS”, gas 26 cents a gallon, in one of the photo’s http://hipspics.freewebspace.com/gas/gas.html :eusa_clap

Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum

Recently, we toured the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum complex. As "Ike" had such a successful military career before he was elected president (twice), there's a ton of stuff to see and history to enjoy there. But, as this is the World War Two portion of our wonderful Fedora...

Allied war dead cemetery in Germany

Recently I was in Germany and quite accidentally came upon this cemetery for allied war dead just outside the village of Bad Tolz. Very well kept and quite the moving experience. Amazing the different nationalities in the RAF. I was reminded of the 1967 movie "The Battle of Britain...." Lest...

    My "fave" fedora flicks

"Dick Tracy" (1990) "Mobsters" (1991) "The Sting" (1973) "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre" (1967) "The Untouchables" (1987) "Dillinger" (1973) Of course, this is in no way a slight to the Indiana Jones series of films. Just in addition to his film series. What's everybody else think?

    Let's talk Irish Whiskey....

Hello fellow Loungers. Do you like Irish whiskeys? If so, pull up a bar stool and let's talk. My history with "the Irish" started with regular Jameson. Then a friend convinced me to try regular Bushmills and I made the switch. (Was a bit disheartened to learn that my beloved Bushmills was a...
