    7X Clear Beaver Open Road

Looking at the white To Reorder tag behind the sweatband, I see a similar tag on a Stetson Number 1 Quality hat, bone white, which is for sale on eBay right now by Ken (wyldkarma) from the Lounge. The size tag on that hat is the "mixed numbers" type, with both the number and the fraction, which...

For the benefit of others, this is what you're left looking at if the 1951-1953 O.P.A. sticker has been torn off and you're left with the bottom stub of it stuck to the back side of the sweatband. On Stetsons, I think it's always or generally between the size tag at rear of sweatband and the...

    Correction - meant O.P.A. label.

Bob, that 2nd Twenty Five, the one with the earliest tag, you estimated dating from 1940 to 1952. I just went back and checked the sweatband again, and it has the stub of a O.P.E label attached to the sweatband where the rest of it with all of the writing had been cut or torn off. So this hat...

    The Dobbs Diner...

Thanks, Hatman. I don't think the seller even knew what they had, because they didn't even mention that it was a Forty.

    The Dobbs Diner...

A 1950's Dobbs Forty I just won in eBay auction. Raw brim is 2 3/4 inches. The felt feels entirely different from a 1950's Dobbs Forty dress fedora I bought from Brent a few months ago. This Western Dobbs felt feels more like what you'd expect in a cowboy hat, but a high-end hat. Hat has same...

Yes, Bob, I had reread this entire thread before posting about this new Stetson I acquired.

    Stetson crest dating

In the discussion about stars vs maple leaf in the Stetson crest or logo, which change took place around 1950 or so, the stars were later revived. Seems I've seen them on the sweatband of late 50's-early 60's Stetson 100 hats, and stars are seen in some hats in later years, but you can't confuse...

    Stetson crest dating

This is what I'm calling a 1940's Stetson 3X that I just won in eBay auction. The sweatband logo says Vita-Felt Process under logo. This logo or crest is sharply detailed and has thin, upright beaver instead of chubby, hunched over beaver. The liner crest matches these details, and both have...

    7X Clear Beaver Open Road

Don't know that I'm good at describing felt. It has a great smooth feel on the surface. It isn't super stiff but requires steam to do any shaping that will hold.

This is one of the few references I've seen on the Lounge about the Shudde Pure Beaver, and haven't seen any such hats shown, so here's mine I got on eBay several months ago. 3 1/4 inch brim, crown about 5 1/2 to 6 inches. It had never been shaped. I just barely shaped it a bit with a little...

I shouldn't have called the rebuilt hat the 3rd hat. It was the 1st described.

I'll also mention that at least of these hats have stars in the liner logo and sweatband logo, and the size tag says Stetson. This should mean these hats are earlier than later 50's hats which have the maple leaf in the logo and the size tag doesn't say Stetson on it. I believe the 3rd rebuilt...

The 1st or rebuilt Stetson Twenty Five had a cattleman's crease when I bought it, so perhaps that's what it had originally. I had it changed to a fedora look.

I'm not familiar enough with tags to date the tag on the rebuilt hat, so I'm satisfied just to give it a 1950's date.
