That’s something I had wondered. I only have the Fed IV for comparison and relative felt thicknesses/densities is something to consider. I was up in Fukushima yesterday glad of the warmer felt, although I suspect it might be a little much in a few months time. -

What Fed IV comes in "sorrel tan"? Do you mean "tawny fawn"? I wore a tawny fawn Fed IV for a few years in SE Asia. It worked well. Yes, I noticed that as well. I think the 2nd hand market is the way to go with Akubras. With patience it is possible to find an Akubra (e.g., Snowy River, Bushman, Campdraft) in excellent condition in my size that is cheaper (and much better on the river) than a new Stetson wool hat for example. -

Most the older Stetson Whippet-ish like hats that Ive handled have been modestly lightweight felt..... much easier for year round wear compared to a heavier felt of a Campdraft or FedIV ( athough I do love both of those) -

...Akubra is a good place to start a hat journey (it's where many of us here started). One of the easiest hats to wear from Akubra is a Campdraft. It comes open crown and holds up to hard wear.
