Burr 37 degrees F this morning! Where did spring go? Oh well... more time for jackets and stout hats.
Today the new-to-me Campdraft Deluxe heads out for the coffee shop. I did do some steaming and little bit of brim flattening yesterday. Eventually Ill probably work in a bit more dip in the...
Good to Know! tells me it was fairly well cared for. I needed a nice warmer hat.... 24 hrs ago it was 83 degrees and right now its 56... got to love Texas spring weather!
Akubra stopped offering the Cedar Brown Campdraft Deluxe during the pandemic when they ceased production of all Campdraft Deluxe and many other models as well.
Congratulations on your score! Looks to be in great shape.
I had the same issue with my brim wanting to snap back up. I finally...
Good score! I was under the impression they don't make CD in this brown anymore; is it an eBay purchase?
Looks like someone trimmed the ribbon as well but it looks better like that, imo.
Perfect timing! Mailman arrived with the new Campdraft Deluxe just as a gap in the storms blew over.
Always an exciting moment when something arrives with a bit of box damage... but it all good inside
Perfect weather for the RM Williams jacket and a new Akubra. Needed some dusting and will...
It would definitely be nice if Elm would expand its offering— in the meantime I think RM Williams uk offers a few Akubras as well but again, a pretty small selection to choose from.
As for Thomas Farthing, I’ve been meaning to write in here to see if anyone has much experience with their felt...
...fees when the reason I'm ordering from abroad in the first place is that the UK options don't offer what I want...
I'm a big fan of the Campdraft (I have a DLX) as a fan of the Stratoliner style. When they have more stock again, I might drop past Thomas Farthing and have a look at their...
I really didnt plan on a big hat purchase this month, but I finally ran across a nice brown Campdraft Deluxe in 59 after looking for what sees like forever. I just couldnt resist. (another one of those " probably more than I needed to spend" hats). More than I usually spend on a hat, but it was...
Nice lid Nathan ! I can see the resemblance between the 2 hats . I have an Akubra Stylemaster and never even thought to compare it to this new to me OR. The crown on my Stylemaster is lower than the OR, but the felt is very similar and the leather sweatbands are nearly identical sans the lettering.
Great to see an original Campdraft in the wild. And for a great price, too!
I also happen to be wearing one of mine today (CD, not OR) - this one of heritage quality.
Funny how, with all my vintage hats, these Akubras keep finding their way to my head. They are just so easy to wear...
(In...
...the practicalities if you want to wear felt in hot weather. The Cattleman has the benefit of the ventilation holes, which the Snowy River and the Campdraft do not. I shave my head and so tend to avoid unvented felt in hot weather owing to otherwise having sweat rolling down my face all the time.
What a diff 10 years makes, kinda like seeing ads from the 50s and seeing those prices. And hats com no longer carries Akubras.
Wonder if Brandon ever got a hat . We'll never know
My next hat will likely be an Akubra, I’ve never worn them before but always hear good things! Probably will get a Campdraft though as I’m sticking to shorter brims while in London. When I’m back out in the country in Kansas I’ll go back to the bigger brims. The territory looks nice for open...
