I was re-watching a favorite Star Trek episode for the umpteenth time—Time's Arrow, a fun time travel one involving Mark Twain—and found myself wondering about Twain/Clemens' Panama:
It's almost a short-crowned top hat, but with no flange on the brim. Or possibly a boater, but...
I got this and my Campdraft at about the same time, and it turns out I much prefer the wider brim of the Campdraft. I put a diamond crease in the Fed, but I haven't worn it much and it will be easy enough to re-do if you'd rather have it a different way.

I got this used earlier this year and I've kinda waffled on it. Sometimes I think I love it and other times, meh. It's in decent used condition and for the right person will be a great hat.

About the cardboard-like felt behavior... I definitely had a bit of that when I first creased mine. I tried a dry bash first, then steamed it, and the more I worked the felt the more wrinkled it got. I found that giving the hat a thorough soaking with a spray bottle was the only way I could...
Go for it; it's a great hat. I'm also between 1/8 and 1/4, and for me, the fit of the 57 is perfect. The prevailing wisdom here on TFL is to buy Akubras a tad large and wait for them to shrink, but I have a couple 58s that have never really shrunk down to the point I'd feel comfortable wearing...
