    Thoughts on Schott quality?

I should point out that yes, Schott makes many jackets with different leathers. i don't think all of them are so high quality. The heavy naked cow, found on the 141 and the Perfecto is the one I think is better than all the rest.

    Thoughts on Schott quality?

I am a fan. Sort of. The Schott heavy naked cowhide is absolutely the greatest leather used in a jacket ever according to objective standards of truth and beauty. It is heavier than Aero's CXL and the most beautiful looking leather. No shiny coating and a slightly oily but matte look. There...

    New Aero Long Halfbelt

Is that really a FINNISH cold weather jacket?

Aero premier highwayman fit, unsure about the length

People have pointed out many times on this forum that the low rise jean and vintage cut leather jacket don't mix. Personally, I feel that unless you have a really short torso, low rise jeans are a bad look anyway and you might consider going with something just a little higher. If that isn't...

    What is this Aero hide?

Send it in for DNA testing.

New Aero 50's Half Belt Deluxe (with pics)

I haven't seen the heavier Aero oil pull in ages. I wish they would restock it. The mid weight is ok but nothing compared to the old stuff.

How to age (or destroy?) a CXL FQHH Highwayman (pic heavy)

It seems hard to believe that the tennis balls could have taken the shiny coating off of CXL leather. I experimented a bit with my jacket and nothing that really worked, except when I experimented with some rubbing alcohol on the inside of the jacket. That finish that Horween puts on is almost...

My first Aero -- is it a keeper?

The current Horween CXL that Aero uses is nothing like the Schott naked cowhide. If you are correct about the similarity then it must be an older model. Perhaps it could be the old oil pull that Aero discontinued.

How to age (or destroy?) a CXL FQHH Highwayman (pic heavy)

Did the dryer remove the shiny coating from the leather completely. It is hard to tell from pictures. It looks like it may have dulled it but not removed it like alcohol would.

    naked HH Good Wear Arcadia

I had a naked leather jacket and over a dcade it got soaked through a few times. No problem. Let it dry out naturally...no artificial heat...and it will be fine. I hope. I wish Aero had some naked leathers like this.

    Johnson Leathers, Thanks Alan!

Is that just regular Horween CXL, like Aero uses? Something looks different. Could just be the lighting I suppose?

We are out of touch with mainstream jacket consumers . . . .

I wouldn't been seen reading GQ magazine. Besides, they aren't "mainstream". They appeal to a narrow portion of the market who would actually take their God awful fashion advice.

    Join Me in Heresy

I like trimmer fitting jackets like the 30s halfbelt from Aero. When it gets cold I wear my wool topcoat. One jacket won't do it all.

Battered Tan for Van Aero Teamster

I had a sample of the battered horse. What amazed me was how quickly the highlights would burst through when I creased it up. My next jacket is the battered seal.

    Your position on patina

I support the proper use of the word PATINA and believe in enforcing proper usage with whatever force is neccessary on this forum.

“Well, now you have met the owner of Schott . . .”

Yes, they still do but they don't put much into it. I was hoping for an expansion of MTM, or a dedicated team that does this regularly and efficiently. As it is now, they charge an awful lot for any customization and you can wait and wait and wait. At one point, I was willing to spend the...

“Well, now you have met the owner of Schott . . .”

Schott needs a dedicated made-to-measure division at the factory. Maybe this would only apply to the top quality Schott jackets like the 141. I actually think Schott quality is second to none. The naked cowhide is my favorite leather ever. But I value fit and Schotts don't fit me well. For...

    Aero Highwayman or 1930s Halfbelt?

Height is not relevant for this matter at least. Just as long as the length of the jacket balances outr your torso to leg length ratio. Short torsos need longer length jackets, by an inch or so. Long torsos need shorter lengths to make the legs look even with the upper body. That's all.

    Aero Highwayman or 1930s Halfbelt?

You can always add length, up to 2 inches I think, to an Aero jacket, if you think you need it. Yes, a fit jacket would be a good idea. I have a proportionally short torso as well and my half belt is just long enough. Barely, but it looks great. If it were proper vintage short I would be a...
