What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Our weather has been wonderfully mild for weeks but you can't fool the Dogwood trees, they are in full fall blush now. Crisp morning in the upper 40's didn't seem to suit the new Camel color Tumwater hat so my favorite Chocolate Brown Tumwater comes out for the first time since the Camel one...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

The first time my mother saw me wearing the hat, she asked if I had considered a black band on it. She thought that would be a little dressier, which is probably true.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

casechopper, I always like the mode edge. And I ought to get a hat with a wide black ribbon, everybody needs a dressy hat like that. Is it about a 2-1/2" brim? Surely no more than that...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

casechopper, In combination with a light-blue shirt the camel hat looks so much like something my late father would wear that it kind of startles me when I look in the mirror. He did not wear dress hats but a camel jacket and light-blue dress shirt was probably his favorite "look" when not...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Wearing my new Tumwater with Camel felt and Gunstock ribbon The face I'm pulling in the first photo is a bit embarrassing but I thought it was a great snapshot of the hat. Two things are obvious, one is that I'm on my way to work and none to happy at the prospect. The other is that I really...

    Post New Hats Here!

Is that brim stitched or is it some kind of welt? I really like the upright lines, it stands up well to having pretty serious crease+dents in it.

Mike, Especially in that picture but even seeing the hats in person, it's amazing how the lighter color makes the brim look shorter. All the measurements are exactly the same on my two hats (or as exact as you'll ever see with a handmade hat) yet the dark brown one looks somewhat narrow and the...

    Post New Hats Here!

Here's my new Tumwater hat (cross-posted from the "tonyb" thread). It's exactly like the hat Tony made for me in 2011 except dark-brown ribbon on light-brown felt instead of the inverse.

OK, here it is on top of some funny-looking guy's head in natural light. I don't quite have the brim tweaked perfectly yet but it's shape up over the next few days. [Cross Posted to "Post New Hats Here" thread]

Too dark and wet outside to get a natural light photo so here's a temporary snapshot of My Two Tumwaters. Any lingering doubts I had about the color being right for me were gone as soon as I pulled it out of the box. It's such a beautiful hat I think it would right for anybody!

David, I know we should "never say 'never'" but the proportions, crown shape and the snap of the brim on my first Tumwater hat looked so perfect when it came out of the box, I can't imagine ever wanting a different shape or style hat. Maybe in five years I'll feel different but this particular...

Yeah, the last couple weeks any time I notice my reflection in a mirror or window I think "Hey, that Camel hat would look good with this shirt". I have a couple of things that look really, really great with my dark chocolate brown Tumwater. But I think a lot of other clothes that look pretty...

    Addictions...

If I could eat ice cream the way I buy hats (on hat a year, whether I need it or not) I'd be ten pounds lighter by this time next year.

All You Need to Know About Hat Etiquette

How can you show respect for people who don't know, care or even notice that you are wearing a hat in the first place? Much less the niceties of when you remove and replace it on your head. It's like wearing clean underwear, if doing so makes you feel better then by all means it's worth doing...

Well it's almost time for a new hat. Looks like TonyB is down to the short rows, working on my second Tumwater hat. It's the one with "Camel" felt that I mentioned here a couple months back. Now it's be-ribboned and ready for its final few touchups. Then the hardest part...waiting the few days...

All You Need to Know About Hat Etiquette

I have no memories of a time when felt hats were worn by any male other than the occasional old guy in church when I was a kid or myself these last few years. So I just do what seems reasonable in terms of etiquette. I wear a hat most to cover my (bald) head outdoors. So when I come inside I...

What's the Right Hat for fishing?

This isn't a good photo but the main character in Foyle's War always wore this same beat-up felt hat when fishing.

    Pulling Off the Casual Look

My personal line is drawn at shorts and/or tee shirt. It is very rare that I wear any outfit with a collar on the shirt and full-length slacks that doesn't look fine with my thin-ribbon, brown Alessandria. Including jeans, golf shirts, running shoes, whatever. But with a no-collar shirt and...
