The first episode after the pilot ("Rebirth") had even more hats! They are also throwing in some vintage cars. I think they're definitely shooting for the vintage-future look, so it's great to see a lot of the guys wearing hats as a general rule. Mostly black stingy fedoras.
Just to throw in another data point here: I usually wear between a 58 and 59, depending on the manufacturer (my real size would be a 58.5). My Fed is a 58 and it is the best fitting hat I own. So, in my particular experience, Feds run a tad large for the size, but for me that worked out...
This continues to bite me. I ordered a 7 3/8 Stetson because according to one online chart from the place I ordered that should fit a 23. Way too big. Returned for a 7 1/4 and it fits much better. I agree that 23 inches around is more like a 7 1/4 than a 7 3/8.
I had this EXACT problem with a recent Stetson Homburg. I measured my head and was kinda in between 58 and 59, so I went with the 59 (which still should have fit fine). Way too big and floated on my head. Exchanged for a 58 and it's snug now (even stretching it a bit slowly to get the perfect...
Then perhaps this thread should be locked. Sorry for the redundancy, but my first scan of that thread seemed to indicate discussion of etiquette back in the day, hence my thread title "for today". I was interested in discussion of modern hat etiquette.
Sorry about that. Mods, please lock.
The Homburg is my favorite hat style, bar far. It got me into hats back in 1994 or so. My first was a Flechet, and I still have it except it seems to have shrunk so I can no longer wear it comfortably. For a newer replacement, I ordered a Stetson Homburg from Miller, and it arrived yesterday...
That's a great way to think of it!
Since I prefer to take my hat off indoors, I find it troublesome sometimes when there is no hat rack / coat rack. At a restaurant, coat checks will take hats (naturally), but sometimes with no coat check it's difficult to properly stash your hat without it...
That's hilarious! Well, I wonder if there is a correlation between common sense and baseball cap wearing? See this classic pic for empirical data:

I'm sure the guy is thinking "if only there...
So I was reading the thread about "best comment you've gotten", reading about folks wearing hats and getting weird reactions, etc. So that got me thinking about proper hat etiquette for today. I must admit I tend to notice if people wear hats indoors - that really bothers me. I always take my...
I've shopped with him before (leather craft supplies) and found the shop pretty responsive. I believe David himself has retired, so perhaps things are a bit up in the air with the transition. Perhaps give them a call at 1-800-324-4934?
The Georgetown Hattery place would go in my bottom-tier hat shop list anyway - They sell mostly crap hats to people that think all hats are the same. To me, top-tier shops are run by folks who actually own hat blocks and can repair/make a hat. This is what I'm looking for, and sadly, that is a...
I've been having a heckuva time finding a decent hat shop in the DC metro area. Most of the shops around here sell terrible quality hats in sizes like Medium and Large. you say you need a 58 or a 7 1/4 and they look at you funny.
Are there any *real* hat shops around here? I'm at a loss...
Stetson bowler
My wife picked up this Stetson bowler at a local flea market today. Any thoughts on its age?
The embroidered logo has a date of 1915 in it related to the "Panama Pacific International Exposition", from what I can read, but I wasn't sure how the Stetson logo may...
