I just had the joy of watching "Queen of Outer Space" with Zsa-Zsa Gabor (1958). Watched it on Turner Classic Movies. It was awesome. The sheer misogyny of the whole thing was amazing. Short skirts, hot women, Venus with no men but the crew of a crashed Earth Ship, terrible special effects...
Back when either Raiders or Temple came out, I bought an official Indy hat, made by Stetson. I think they now call it "The Temple". Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, I got rid of it. A couple years ago, I found this site and decided it was time to get another "Indy" hat. Of course...
I couldn't help myself. When I read the thread title, the first thing that popped into my head was from the opening scene of "Patton". "You won't have to say, well...I shoveled sh.... in Louisiana."
My dad was an Army Chaplain during Vietnam. About a year ago he shared some things he had...
My first reaction to the OP was "Custom, all the way". However, after reading throught the thread, I can see how going Vintage is an excellent choice, as well. The problem is, I'm like frussell. I have a pretty big bean. Not as big as frussell, just a 7 5/8, but still big.;) I've had a bit...
Thanks, randooch. As often as I Google stuff you would think I would have Googled thus question. For some reason, it never crossed my mind.
Philalethes, that is exactly what I mean. I now have two Wilson jackets that I really like, but the arms are too long.
I recently purchased a Lambskin Jacket from Wilson Leather. Apparently, if you have an XL body, you have monkey arms. I need to get the arm length altered.
Does anyone in DFW have any recommendations? Preferably in the northern half of the Dallas-side of DFW, though I am pretty much willing...
My Maternal Grandmother had a Singer that looked a lot like the one on the right, in the pic above.
In the late 70s/very early 80s, she paid someone $10 to haul it away. :eeek:
My mother about killed her.
Please forgive the late entry into the pleats discussion. I'm just returning to The Lounge after several months hiatis. College Football, don'tcha know.
As a man of somewhat ample size (38" to 40" pant waist) and middle age (45), I personally find flat fronts to be more flattering. Here...
I tend to feel the same way. Unfortunately, I'm haunted by images of Mister Rogers. Won't you be my neighbor?
It's a little weird. If I see a gentleman wearing a cardigan, I don't see Mister Rogers. When I wear one, I do. Odd.
As best as I can determine, US Army Officers and Soldiers are still authorized to wear the black, pullover sweater, with the Class "B" Army Service Uniform. Currently, there is no "Wearout Date" for the sweater. However, seeing as the duty uniform for the vast majority of soldiers is the ACU...
I like the look of the current "generic" cowboy hats. To each his own, I guess.
My current felt cowboy Stetson was bought back in 1990, as an open crown, which I had creased similar to the Cattleman. Unfortunately, it is now too small. When and if I ever replace it, it will be a nice...
Post WWII
As an Army Brat and a veteran, I can tell you that hat is a post-WWII to pre-2005 Field Grade Officer's Service Cap. It looks just like my Dad's, only the braids are cleaner. Field Grade Officers are Majors, Lieutenant-Colonels and Colonels. The Service Cap for Company Grade...
I had a custom Fur Felt Fedora made by Peters Brothers in Fort Worth. I am extremely pleased with it. When and if I decide to get a new Cowboy Hat, I'm getting it there. They make some fine hats and do a good amount of business at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

From one old Cavalryman to another...Thank you for your service, sir. Yes, I know...don't call you "Sir". You worked for a living.
Me...A/5-17 CAV, 2ID; B/2-8 CAV, 1CD (Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm); RHHT, 3ACR. I was a "Sir". I didn't work for a living. :D
My Stetson...
