Buttons Inside a WW2 US Army Officer's Tunic

Were not many of those tunics custom made? Mine is from Issac Hamberger in Baltimore and obviously made just for this officer, as he was over 6 ft. That said, in modern coats such buttons were sometimes used to fasten a lining. Are your buttons in such a location as to do that?

    America In WWII Magazine

The issue of America in WWII that we are talking about had a full page ad on the back cover announcing that the magazine is now available on NOOK. I checked out the NOOK website and did not find the magazine as yet. Perhaps a few days too early?

    PT109 The Early Years

Nice article. I read the entire thing and though the editing was annoying the story more than made up for it. What a crowd of sailors. They really did not sink that much but were certainly an annoyance to the enemy. And how they forced the enemy to change tactics will never be known.

Current Magazines on World War 2

I subscribe to World War II published bimonthly by Weider History Group. I think it is a good magazine and an enjoyable read. Are there other current publications that you have found?

    Sweetheart Pictures

I am looking for posed photos of servicemen with their wife/sweetheart. Probably not going to find the two of them in front of a jeep or aircraft, perhaps in a back yard or even a studio. Are there web sites that archive WW2 photos, specifically homefront photos? I am trying to get a feel...

    WW2 A-2 Pictures

Some Questions In the second photo what does the guy on the left have fastened to his belt. Let me guess, it is not his cell phone. Glasses case? In the fourth photo what does the cowboy have in his holster besides the 45?

    Army Airforce Patches

The first patch I was questioning is in the below link. It is called Army Air Force Insignia in the book Silver Wings, Pinks and Greens. Was this a shoulder patch? And when was it used versus a patch from say the Fourth Air Force? Are you serious in saying that there was sewing...

    Army Airforce Patches

I am confused on when and what patches were used. First question is the Army Air Corp patch, this is the one without any numeric designation, when was it used and on what? Second, did airman move between air corp units and thereby have to change patches? Third. did the airman have to...

ISO info on US/Italian diplomatic relations

Diplomatic Relations From September 9, 1943, when Italy agreed to the armistice, there would have been the need for consulate members. When Il Duce was forced into "retirement" the monarchy took over. They would have diplomatic relations with the US very soon after that date.

Is This A WWII Officers Hat or Post War?

The gold mohair band and darker colored visor are confusing me. World War II? http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz71/fudge_brownie/DobbsOfficersHad.jpg?t=1266811608

    "Franken" Crusher

"Cossack Hat" There are certainly variations in hat fabrics. Probably due to the numerous manufacturers and possiblity due to the requests of customers. I have now seen several hats I classify as "Cossack Hats" due to the thick material used as fabric. One was a Berkshire Deluxe described as...

    "Franken" Crusher

Silver Wings Book I have ordered the book from Amazon, $40 with free shipping. There is now a second edition that is expanded. One reader did a review and was slightly critical of the colors in the photos in the book. Particularly on the color of "pinks". After reading a recent Fedora...

    "Franken" Crusher

Now I understand the differences in crusher, visor, 50 mission crush, officer's and EM hats. The term crusher is certainly misused. I can understand the quality in construction and materials though the Quartermaster hats would certainly be of quality. I still am uncertain about colors...

    "Franken" Crusher

Or "What is the difference between an officer's visor hat and an enlisted man's hat?" I can see the obvious difference in the hat insignia and the officer's hat has the mohair braid. There are, however, a number of EM hats that have the braid. It appears the EM hats are often in better...

FS - WWII Knox US Army Officer's Cap 7 1/8

Nice Hat I have been looking for a hat like this, just curious why you choose not to use the word crusher in your description? It appears just about everyone else selling such a hat on e-**** uses such description. Is the wire frame still present in this hat?

    Wearing Crusher Hat

I see in old war footage that the pilots were wearing their crusher hats while flying. Did they wear them other times? For example were they worn while on leave? I could imagine they might have more than one? Was this the accepted hat with Class A's. Was the OD crusher worn with Khaki...
