The League of German Girls – Bund Deutscher Mädel

My mother-in-law who is 86 now was a member in Austria and I believe it was compulsary.

Rockin' that Cold War STASI look!

I sat in a pub in the former East Germany (they call it Middle Germany) and my friend told me that the man sitting behind us was a typical Stasi member (meaning he had been when there was one). 'How do you know?' I asked (although in German), and he replied that the suit was what they all wore...

    English Clubs

I went to such a club in London with an American friend who had a reciprocal agreement from an American club. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the club. They asked me to join but I wasn't interested.

    who belongs to a Lodge

I'm off to a Royal Arch meeting this evening. This is a separate order in the UK but each Chapter is connected to a Lodge and bears the same name; although anyone qualified may join, whether a member of the same Lodge or nay.

    Famous Pipe Smokers

Here is a link to the Pipe Club of London, which I am an Honorary Life Member of: http://www.pipecluboflondon.com/. Meeting was initially difficult after the smoking ban in pubs was introduced but the covered areas certain pubs have has made it possible now. I have taken part in many pipe...

    Wearing Suits to Lodge

In England a dark lounge suit would be the minimum requirement. My visits to American lodges have been the cause of much confusion and jollity from both sides over the years. Sometimes the similarities just run out.

Thank you for the Wind Cord link The Wiser Hatter and to Stoney who created it. First I am replacing the ribbon, then the wind cord work commences.

    Snuff users in the Lounge?

I have taken snuff for many years and started when I fist did English Civil War re-enactment at age 17, when I also started smoking a pipe. It gets round all smoking bans; although I have had the landlord of a pub wanting to see it once, presumably because he thought it might be bump.

Ask a question, get an answer

Somewhere in this forum is the answer to this questiion but I have searched in vain and not found it: false links abound for some reason. I have the makings of a wind trolley from an open road hat separate from the hat. Having never seen one in working condition and affixed to the hat, I have...

I would never wear a hat for a performance with my band unless it were outside because I don't wear hats inside.

DarthBish you have made a very useful device and it looks just the ticket to me. Well done! If only I wasn't so cackhanded I'd make one myself.

German fashion magazines (1939 und 1940)

I must show this to my wife's mother, who is 85 and going strong (she even works still). Being Austrian, she would have worn this sort of clobber as a youngster.
