Well, not a stock tip, but car and motorcycle swap meets are a good place to find leather jackets-I picked up a nice tan Brooks jacket at one a few years ago, for not much money. I usually see jackets at every one I go to. I visit the local thrift where I got this jacket almost every day around...
Here's the back. As you can see, almost unworn in appearance, and doesn't smell, either. I like this one-fits well, and not too valuable to wear, unlike the Buco I found earlier this year.
My local Salvation Army had a "black Friday" sale today, with any 5 purple-tagged items for $5. I picked up this leather motorcycle jacket, normally for sale at $49.99, for $1-it had a purple tag! (I got 4 other items, too). There are no identifying marks in this jacket, other that a couple of...
I've worn Detroit jackets for years-but I work in them, and wear them out. They go from being new, brown, and stiff to faded, stained, and frayed, to finally, relegated to working on my cars in cold weather. Wear a "seasoned" Detroit jacket in Lowes or HD, and people will ask YOU for advice on...
How about this ornate dish? Just sitting on a shelf in a local thrift. I guess the sorters didn't know that a "900" mark on it makes it worth more than the $3.99 I paid for it... The candle holder and salt shaker were Sterling, also. I picked them up for a couple of dollars each.
Those Vincent riders a few posts back-almost all of them in the photo are wearing well-worn Barbour and/or Belstaff waxed cotton jackets. Waxed cotton can get to looking like leather after it's worn.
It fits-I'm not a big guy-I'm 5'7" and about 143 pounds. This size 42 fits pretty nicely, with just a T-shirt underneath. I'm still pondering what to do with this-I have plenty of other vintage jackets to wear, that aren't nearly so rare, and this one really is in nice condition-probably too...
"Coronation" silverware pattern came out in 1936, to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VIII, who ended up only reigning for a year or so, until he abdicated "to marry the woman I love". I happened to find this plate at the same store-one of the few commemorative plates to show him wearing...
here's another recent find: Oneida "Coronation" silverware. It's plated, but still nice. Why use cheap modern stuff when you can get something as nice as this for $7?
I visit a local Thrift Store almost every day-I have a cottage that I'm furnishing and outfitting, and I'm only getting the best stuff for it, buying at this store. Furniture, dishes, decorations-it's all from this one store, that draws its donations from an old, wealthy suburb. Here's a few...
Is it really a J100? it is unlined, with longer skirts than I've seen in other jackets-the zipper starts about a third of the way from the bottom of the jacket. The pockets are just a baglike canvas sort of material with no lining covering them. Would this be more properly called a Race Shirt?
I go to most of the car and motorcycle swap meets around the area-I frequently see guys selling old leather jackets, along with whatever else they brought. Guys will grab whatever is hanging around in their barns and garages, just to get rid of it, and make a few bucks at the swap meet. You...
