    What am I doing wrong?

Try a little VO5 (very little). Run your fingers through your hair and keep on brushing!

As if we didn't chat about pin curls enough. . .

My hair is very short and thin/fine, so there isn't a lot of it and I can set my hair in about 15 minutes, but I've been doing pin curls on and off for almost 20 years, so I can go pretty fast:)

    Besame cosmetics

I really hope it isn't true that they are revamping and getting rid of the "vintage" packaging and going modern. Especially since the founder stated in the beginning that the line was created to celebrate old fashioned glamour. :( I guess we will just have to wait and see and enjoy the...

    Gardens vegetable, flower or other?

We are! Actually it is going to be a container garden on our back deck. I have no experience with vegetable gardening and want to start small. I was looking up "Victory Garden's" on the internet about a month ago, and read about a "salad bowl" container garden. You basically use a very...

Looking for Retro Linoleum, 1930s-40s can anyone help?

Try the Armstrong website www.Armstrong.com. They still have linoleum and also they have a line called "MODe" which has some retro patterns (although there are only 2 choices and both in brown).

    Besame cosmetics

I'm *bumping* this thread to let you gals know that Besame is discontinuing some of their items and putting them in a category called, appropriately enough, "Au Revoir". They don't have much, just the foundation (down to $18.00 for any shade), the vanity case in light or dark, and the trio...

    any old-school housewives??

You can count me in to!:) Almost 20 years married, 4 kids (oldest in High school, youngest in elementary and twins in the middle school). Cook, clean, chauffer, nursemaid, volunteer work, etc.. etc... It's what I always wanted to do, so I can't complain (much..);)

    Beauty Buffet

I am hunting for the perfect blush, and came across this line on Amazon. Has anyone ever tried their products? Their packaging has a vintage look. http://www.amazon.com/s.html?ie=UTF8&node=11055981&brand=Beauty%20Buffet

    Dry cleaning hair?

There is a very good shampoo and conditioner called appropriately enough, "No Rinse". The shampoo lathers like a regular shampoo, but uses absolutely no water, just towel dry. The conditioner is very good too. The bottle says they are used by NASA. I buy them for my mother who is in a...

    Thoughts on cake mascara

I also use La Femme cake mascara. I love it because I can control the amount of coverage, but you do have to be careful not to dampen the cake too much or you will end up with a watery mess! Actually I use quite a few of the La Femme products and love them all!:)

    another hair question

My hair is thin/fine too. If I wear it straight I use a volumizing spray like Garnier XXL Root Booster or the Marc Anthony line of Instantly THICK. I have tried the thickening cream that comes in a pump and it works very well. Both of these lines are also very inexpensive (way under $10), so...

O To Be a Silver Fox

I agree!! My husband is 44 and has been going gray for years. His hair was a naturally dark brown, almost black, and I think he looks very attractive with the silver in his hair. :)

    Besame cosmetics

PennyCarrol, Carmine is my favorite Besame lipstick shade. I have worn it for about 2 years, it has a slightly orangy (not to much) tint, that I really love. I also love the foundation and am very pale, but the bisque shade works well for me. I see now they are having a BOGO on the...

WWII Photos (and Stories) of Our Loved Ones

My grandfather on my mother's side was a WWI vet. My dad and his two brothers were all WWII vets, who served in Europe. Two of my uncles, by marriage to my mom's sisters, were also WWII vets, and also served in Europe. Unfortunately they are all gone now, so I don't know much about...

    Wartime cartoons

Believe it or not, my 6 year is obsessed with WWII! Every day the army toys come out and the war is recreated all over the house. I swear he is a reincarnation of my dad who was a WWII vet. Anyway, for Christmas we got him the Disney Treasures "On the Front Lines - The War Years". Haven't...

    Show us your hair do's....

I haven't posted anything for a long time...but Nikki, I had to say your hair is absolutely gorgeous!! :) For those who would kill for authentic wave clamps like those, try Ryler Stylers. They are pretty close to a modern day version of those that Nikki used and will produce a similiar wave...

    Best hairpsray ?

I like the John Freida "Frizz Ease" - if I end up like Little Orphan Annie after I take out my pins, this spray really calms down my 'do!
