    Show us your SHOES !!!

These boots are fairly similar to Stacy Adams Madison, although, of course, the Madison is made to much lower quality standards. Still the shape and the kidskin leather used look very similar.

    Bad Book - Better Movie?

My cousin, who is a Russian literature teacher in Moscow, Russia, almost had a fit when I mentioned the movie Doctor Zhivago (1965) to her as an introduction of Boris Pasternak to the American public. She characterized it as a "terrible, terrible movie." I read the book only (in Russian), so...

    High rise khakis

Dickies 1922 is a more full-cut and high rise pant than Dickies 874, but they are much more expensive. Retail price is around $175.00.

    High rise khakis

If you are looking for something on the cheap side, give Dickies 874 a try. Solidly made, high rise, less dressy than Bills, real workwear pants. At the Front khakis are more of a period pant style, in my opinion.

You have to keep in mind that Melville was a fan of classic American film noir and dressed his characters accordingly.

    1922 Dickies

The trousers are not narrow at all. I tried them on: they are quite wide and high-rise. Definitely wider than Dickies 874 in same size.

    Reproduction classic workwear

It looks like he may be wearing them too low and/or wearing the wrong size. Alternatively, maybe the cut is odd: the pockets appear to be located too low, the yoke too big, the cinch too low.

    Reproduction classic workwear

Any pics of these being worn? They look odd in the above Sivletto picture. Maybe because he is wearing them wrong. Also, are these jeans unsanforized? What was the shrinkage like?

Anyone know where I can find boots similar to these?

Timberland has several boots that are similar in their regular range for about half of the price or less. Take a look at Zappos.com for some examples, e.g. Earthkeepers 2.0 Moc Toe Boot, Earthkeepers City 6" boot, Yele Haiti Boot.

    The 1950s Suit

Does the suit have darts? Lack of darts is the main distinguishing feature of an American sack suit.
