Just went to pick the coat up on Friday. A very nice drive from Glasgow to Gallashiels. The coat is stunning (single breasted for me). Now breaking it it. Feels like wearing a proper body armour. Will the horsehide ever feel a bit supple? If so, how many hours of wear does it typically...
Dear all, I have read all threads on this subject and would like a few pieces of advise for better informed people than me...
I live in Glasgow and so went to Aero today for measurements. I am planning to buy a very dark brown FQHH barnstormer with shawl collar (in a even darker shade of...
Yes. The problem appears to be that the carton tubes that are the arms of the jacket are so rigid that if I bend my arms the inside of the cuffs rubs quite hard against my wrists because the arms do not flex enough.
Just imagine inserting your arms into two carton tubes, with your hands...
ELC 1940 Battle of Britain
Actually, here is my not too positive story. I have owned this ELC 1940 Battle of Britain for 6 months, have worn it a lot and I am not happy at all (a) with the "dry" look of the sheepskin, (b) its hard, not supple, a carton-like feel when I wear it (as opposed to...
Hello Andrew, yes, I do too. In the end, I decided to keep the original Irvin and wear it in alternation with my Eastman 1940 'Battle of Britain.' Though I am growing to dislike its Zip, but like its nice chestnust color.
Now in Belgium where the weather has been even worse than in the UK...

Hmmm, it is still early days for me but I can confirm that the Pecard really did addressed the dry finish of the broken grain jacket. It also darkened slightly its overall color--slightly richer chestnut brown.
Will have to see how it all pan out, and of course it is all a...
BTW, would have any advice on how to apply the Pecard on the jacket?
I read elsewhere that it might be worthwhile warming it up a bit. Should I apply it to all the horsehide as well? Any tips on how to avoid accidental application on the shearling?
Thanks again for any advice.
Dear Irvin nuts,
I have just received my Eastman Irvin today (1940 pattern, broken grain).
I am a bit surprised by its "crumpled dusty carton" appearance (almost like dried parchment). It is also very stiff.
Any advice on how to break it in? Should I treat the jacket with some...
You are right! I also see it as a modern Bugatti Atlante. I am enjoying it. To me, it is a unique car whose enjoyment will be enhanced by a unique (Irvin of course) jacket. Sounds corny, but I am sure you guys know what I mean ;-)
Thanks! I am always amazed at the evident passion, knowledge and friendliness that I have discovered here! A refreshing style compared e.g. to a Porsche forum.
