Well, I have to sell SOMETHING; I like to eat, as does my boy! ;) It was hard giving up the majority of them, but there is no way in the world I could make them all in my lifetime anyway! lol

Ironing Woes...Love the vintage Hate the ironing

I LOVE ironed sheets! I run my vintage french linen sheets through Betsy and put them on the bed...mmmmmm...feels so good. I iron all my pillowcases, every time. Things just look and feel so much better when properly pressed! I have a steamer too, but you just can't get the fresh look sometimes...

Ironing Woes...Love the vintage Hate the ironing

Oh goodness, I have such a thing for giving inanimate objects names! It's like a thing in my family. I also have a pink 50s Hoover Constellation vacuum named Lulubelle. Yeah, I'm strange. lol

Here are my keepers. I just can't let go of these. And last, this is the only one of these I have ever seen! It is already spoken for.. I had a very fun day! :D

I hit the motherlode today. I am still high from it. Got up at 5:30 to go wait in line at an estate sale that opened at 8:30...I am awful glad I did. It had advertised vintage everything including patterns, sewing, clothing, hats, etc. It was kind of pricey, especially the hats, but I bought...

My birthday is next week and I'm starting early. ;) The other day during a marathon thrifting session for $13 bucks! I thought they were vintage, that's how good they are. I never knew Ralph Lauren made such things. They are ladies, too, in my large size for my sister ugly feet! Today...

Ironing Woes...Love the vintage Hate the ironing

I love ironing...yeah, I'm weird. I have an Oreck iron at home that I love, and at work we have a professional Rowenta. But what I love the most is my 1958 Ironrite mangle, Betsy. She's not very energy-efficient but she can do a men's dress shirt in 4 minutes, a tablecloth in about 3. I use her...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I have to post this-yesterday I wore this 80s-does-50s shirtwaist dress that I love; it is a leopard cotton print. It really gets attention because it is kinda loud, and I played up the 50s to the hilt with my black and tan oxfords and pearl jewelry. I mean, there was NO mistaking I was going...

Marie-Anne: that is very pretty, and you did a good job! I recognize that fabric because I made a shirt dress out of it myself! It was a dream to work with.

Just tell people it's "research". You have plans, but you can't tell anyone yet. They serve as "inspiration to your creativity". How can they fault you then? I know we all would understand!

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

Oh dear. I think you had better go to church and pray for your soul for that one...lol (Just kidding!!!)

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

I have heard that the old Glass Wax cleaning compound is fabulous for compo dolls. Is this true? I see that it used to go on eBay for stupid amounts of money now that they don't make it anymore! I love Glass Wax, and have the Christmas stencils that they used to sell with it. The stuff cleans...

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

I have used it on 1940s and 50s multi-colored tablecloths with no problem-it took out ONLY the dye that had recently transferred from something else. Don't ask me how it works...just that it does! lol I was afraid that it would ruin the whole tablecloth, but it saved a really rare beauty that I...

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

Oh yes! Denture tablets are also good for cleaning hard water deposits off the inside of glassware and pottery. Feraud-how did you use the Oxy on the ties? Were they rayon, like the 40s rayon ones? What was the Oxy-to-water ratio? KittyT-I feel your pain. I have ruined things by soaking them...

    Ruining vintage stuff :(

I deal mostly in vintage linens, and I have used Carbona Dye Remover with great success. It's worth a try-what have you got to lose? Since it's linen, it will probably be ok. I wouldn't try it on old rayon. Best of luck to you! ;)

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

I tell you, I relish each episode every Sunday night like I would my favorite thing to eat. This show is just DELICIOUS! Wonder where Betty is going to go with her newfound confidence? Where will Don sleep at night? Will he finally give up the philandering? Is it too late to save the...

    The 50's "Beatnik" Look

You are very welcome! I am glad that I asked her about them, because I have copies now too. I forget how cool she was/is sometimes. ;)

"Mad Men" on AMC (US) - (Spoilers Within)

It's like women aren't allowed to have anything jiggle anymore, except on top. I love that they really celebrate Joan. I think they have actually made her a little bigger than the actress really is because I don't remember her derriere being quite that big. I wish I could wear a wiggle dress...
