What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I am a huge fan of noir. From the original film noir classics through the 70s neo-noir resurgence to the 21st century neon-noirs, noir adjacent and remakes. My favorite two movies of 2022 were Decision to Leave and Broker which I just saw for the second times. Decision to Leave really honors...

    Suggestions for movies.

I always associate Miracle on 34th Street with Maureen O'Hara and a young Natalie Wood as the little girl with this type of movie.

    Unpopular movie opinions...

Why do you (or anyone) think American culture c.2010 produces such movies? Personally I loathe the Saw movies and find them to be wanna-be intellectual rubbish (not even at the level of psuedo-intellectual rubbish). But I honestly wonder why our culture produces and consumes such rubbish?

    Film Noir?

My favorite classic Film Noir movies are: The Postman Always Rings Twice Double Indemnity The Big Sleep I personally don't consider Maltese Falcon and North by Northwest to be Film Noir but those are other favorites of mine from the era. If He Hollers Let Him Go by Chester Himes is a great...

    Unpopular movie opinions...

Crash (2004) was a horribly overrated movie that offended me as a native of Los Angeles. I did not like the Lord of the Rings movies, I fell asleep in all 3 of those movies (but then again I did not like the books either). Who cares who she was married to, it was Lana Turner!!! I agree. I...

A fun weekend at Goodwill. Two great vintage wool knit ties (Craigmill from Scotland) a new pink shirt for myself (I can never find good condition yellow/champagne shirts though which I am looking for) and a great sport coat from Wilkes Bashford, SF.

    Show us your SHOES !!!

Ah excellent to know. I'd love to find some vintage Florsheims in the various styles from the ads I posted in Vintage Ads but I don't seem to have the shoe luck when thrifting that some people do. I'm always on the lookout though. Thanks much for the information.

Buscemi's White-tie Rig on Boardwalk Empire

I've read that the wardrobe dept. did extensive research before making the clothes to ensure that everything was very period accurate. They said they specifically studied what was fashionable in 1920 and apparently are very careful with their kits to not put anything from even 1921 style in. I...

    Show us your SHOES !!!

Hi, I picked up these Florsheim Imperials from thrift and I am curious if these are the older higher quality Florsheim. They do say Made in USA so that leads to believe they are at least better than the ones made in Asia yes?

10 Restaruants & Retailers We Miss

Federated Department Stores. I used love going to "Fed-Co" as a kid in Pasadena to order Orange Bang drinks and go shopping. Robinsons-May department store. Bought out by Macys :(. My experience with Macy was lesser quality items and trying to be trendy brands (like Donald Trump clothes =/ )...

    What Happened to Florsheim?

Hello I just picked up an excellent pair of what I think are vintage Florsheim Imperial Wingtips on recent Thrift run. These Florsheims are Made in the USA. From what I gather that is a good indicator of their quality yes? Also does anyone know if the numbers on the inside can be decoded for...

    Project Runway?

I can't believe I started watching (and enjoying this show). It was really interesting to see the designers have to scramble in a day to design something. I actually learned a bit about style from watching this. Although last night's winner surprised me, in retrospect I think it was well deserved.

Financial Times: "‘Bespoke’ ruling fails to suit Savile Row"

Well, Bordeaux wine must be produced in the Bordeaux region of France and same with Burgundy and other French wine. I think Italians are the same with Chianti being produced only in Tuscany. I do agree with your general point however especially in this instance but patented words can get...

For the smokers in the lounge

At the moment my favorite is a Danish blend. Very light and tasty. The tobacco shop by my house is a bit limited on pipe tobacco (they focus mainly on cigars) so I don't think they have that blend you mention. At least I dont recall seeing it. They do have cavendish based blend though and a few...

For the smokers in the lounge

I am a pipe elitist. I buy pipe tobacco from my local tobacco shop and smoke out of an old school wood pipe. If I do not have access to pipe tobacco I will not smoke as that is the only type of smoke I can enjoy now. Ooh! Great choice! I only came across that brand once. I was told they were...
