    Cowboy Boots

Took a trip to Steamboat Springs last weekend. Ended up in a thrift store with nothing to offer, except in the far back corner of the store. Dan Posts circa 1975. Tony Lamas Receipt out the door.

    Western, anyone?

It may have been Open Range then. Haven't been there for a while.

    Western, anyone?

Smitty, of Colorado Mountain Hat Co, has done some western movie hats also. Most notably Robert Duvall, in Lonesome Dove. Can't remember others off hand.

    Cowboy Boots

Ok. Lots of excellent examples of western boots! How about some detail? After the toe, what is looked at? The heel. My heel definition has changed over the years. Straight back heel is a roper heel. The shortest of heels. I have a pair but not in my early repetoire. Next is the...

    Cowboy Boots

Some beautiful boots in this thread. I wore western boots almost exclusively until my early twenties. Acme, Tony Lama, Nacona... Sadly, I would wear a pair out in about six months. Holes in the sole and cracks in the sides. Plus where I live now has a narrow window for smooth leather soles...

    Southern New Years 2010

Black eyed peas were manatory on New Years. In my youth, some bars would give out a small bowl of 'em with the first drink. This was to insure good luck. I have maintained the tradition but in the form of a Hoppin' John. I am of the belief that cabbage and pennies are a northern plot and...

Of Sheep-Dip, Rot-Gut, and Furniture Polish. The worst of the worst.

Having spent too much time with some nefarious characters, I'd say anything with the name Jose Cuervo, Jack Daniels, Chevas Regal or Jim Beam should be avoided. Wild Turkey has not been touched, smelled or opened since the age of thirteen. Malibu, Jagger or any other drink that one would only...

    North Face, A True Story

Wow, just read a review today. I will have to watch this one. Stood at the base of the Eiger. As a climber, I decided to go drink beer. Beautiful/intimidating wall that totally overwhelmed me.

    Happy Autumn

Happy late Autumn! :D Up here, at 8500ft, we have had two snows and the last two weeks the area has been flooded with tourists looking at fall colors. I think the altitude has an effect on their brain cells. Common sense is greatly diminished. Tom

    Famous ancestors?

My great, great uncle was an actor in over 300 movies. "No one got beat up more than Charlie King." http://www.surfnetinc.com/chuck/cking.htm I am probably related to "Big Nose" George Parrott, "the most hated man in Wyoming"...

    Do you buy organic?

I get my veggies from http://www.doortodoororganics.com. What's left of a 1/4 side of beef is from http://www.longfamilyfarms.com. The free range, hormone and antibiotic free, chickens and lamb are from a local source. Carnivore Tom

Career changes, anyone? Stories, Advice, whatever...

Well, I'm a little past the 30s. I quit working for a fortune 100 computer company about 16 months ago and bought a small business. Lots more responsibilities and less pay (for now) but I haven't regretted it one bit. We've got a good customer base that is great to work with. Tom

    4x4 - The Debate

Subys aren't that expensive to maintain. Most have open diffs, which isn't as desirable. I do like the older Subys with the 2 speed transfer case. They are a lot better in the snow. The little wagons that go forever. ;) Tom

    4x4 - The Debate

Tony, Check out Binderbulletin.org. You could probably find an 80 locally or just reminisce some more. ;) I'm looking for an 80 for a future project. The 152s are fun engines. Even more fun when they are turbo charged. Vacuum wipers are hypnotic but no good in the mountains. I...

    4x4 - The Debate

Um, interesting thread?[huh] Personally, I own three 4x4 vehicles ranging in age from '67-'91. #4 is in the works. I also live in the mountains, on a dirt road. Yes, I "use" 4WD. I would like to see a two wheel drive vehicle make it to my house in the middle of winter. ;) As for...

    Vintage car observation.

True. Now add to that driving in the mountains 80% of the time. Wipers are a luxury I don't have. :) I really like the simplicity of the 800s. EBs are fun too, even if they were a copy. :p The Scout II was a victim of the '70s. I have a '76 Traveler that is going to become a plow...
