    Making a Puggaree. Advice?

I'm familiar with the Riverina thread. Unfortunately, I've seen the other threads regarding pugs and the links are all deceased. Actually, I'd very much like to sew a puggaree in the style of the Australian slouch pugs. I notice that they've been sewn, but I'm not really sure how that could be...

    Making a Puggaree. Advice?

I really want to fold a traditional puggaree myself for this hat. Is the twill tape what would be traditionally used on a civilian bush hat? Also, there seem to be a couple ways to do this- one being to pleat the fabric, and one wrapping around the hat in an interesting pattern.

    Making a Puggaree. Advice?

I just found a very seriously awesome camel-colored hat that I intend to turn more adventure-ey by reworking the shape and folding a puggaree for it. I just had a few questions about puggarees- First of all, where does the practice of folding a puggaree come from? Just a curiosity, what are...

    Double-brim adventure hats

I agree. Although the weathered drape of an old safari hat has a certain beauty to it, I wouldn't advertise that on a new hat. Beside that, the cheetah hat band is a bit over the top. Regardless, I was interested in the double-brim. "A handsome hat alright, but brim and sometimes crown are...

    That's alright, thanks for looking!

    Double-brim adventure hats

That makes perfect sense! I figured it was either two hats put together or just the brim- cut below the sweat band- sewn to another brim, but cutting it above the sweat band makes much more sense than both of those. I'm with Oldsarge, I'd love to see any pictures you have of the 'Bwana hat."...

    Double-brim adventure hats

Should that imply then that a double-brimmed "terai" hat is more or less two hats, one inside of the other?

    Double-brim adventure hats

That's interesting! I'm curious, does anybody know how these hats were made? Was another brim from a different hat simply stitched on? How would that stay up?

    Double-brim adventure hats

The Bwana thread is specifically about the Bwana hat. Related though these threads are, I'm just trying to find out more about the double brim style in general. If anybody else thinks they should be combined, then they probably should. (I wouldn't really know. )

Thanks for helping me with the picture. I'm starting to jones for one of these hats!

    Double-brim adventure hats

I just asked about pictures from that old Bwana thread. I'm looking forward to seeing them! As for the hat from "Secret of the Incas," I'm almost certain it has two brims. But don't take my word for it, I've got a screenshot to back me up...

The BWANA arrives! - First pics.

I just started a thread about double-brimmed hats. I'd very much like to see the original pictures of Bwana that were in this thread. Could anybody help me out? Thanks for letting me post on a zombie thread!

    Double-brim adventure hats

Lately I've been in a craze for watching safari and adventure classics. You really can't go wrong with films like "The Secret of the Incas" with Charlton Heston. Something I've noticed in some of these films is that some of the wide-brimmed safari hats these manly adventurers are wearing have...

    Long-hair fur-collared bomber jackets

I'm in the process of making a cold-weather bomber-esque leather adventure jacket out of an old leather jacket. I have some very soft off-white fur that I'd like to line the coat with. But I'm worried that long haired fur (this stuff is probably 2-3 inches long) will look too feminine on a men's...

    movie hats that inspired you...

Like many people, I was brought to the world of fedoras by Indiana Jones. After finally making a perfect replica of the hat he wore in Raiders of the Lost Ark, I very quickly found that it looked terrible on my head. The crown was too high, the brim too... I don't know what. It looks good on my...

    Thin and flimsy

I have to admit, I fell in love with the little featherweight devil while I was in the shop. It framed my head better than any hat I've ever worn, and it just looked right. When I have money, I shall come 'round and rescue it. (the poor creature was stuffed on a shelf underneath a pile of other...

    Thin and flimsy

I'm sure this question has already been answered numerous times, but eh... searching.... I don't lurk on this forum nearly as much as I ought to. Any time I find an honest-to-God genuine fedora from the golden era, I find that while the craftsmanship itself is quite excellent (hey, a real bound...
