I ordered a travel Borsalino online and via telephone from this nice lady named Gilda a couple of years ago: http://www.hatalog.com/ Silver Springs is maybe a half hour outside of Baltimore. I haven't been there, but it seems like a real hat store to me.
I came across on an old thread posted years ago by one of the pro hatters, I believe, that said you can spray a solution of three parts water to one part Armorall on a hat, both to restore the felt and waterproof it. I tried it on an old stetson conversion and it softened the felt, brought out...
2 1/2" to 2 3/4" for me, although my indoctrination to wearing a fedora in public began with a vintage gray Knox with a 2" welted edge brim--it seems tiny on my head now.

I always wonder about the very first person who tried something out. I wonder if the poor SOB who first wore this bash got kicked in the head by his horse.
