For a while I have been a little confused as to the Austerity and Utility regulations.
Many times I had read about the Utility suit, having no turnups, two pockets on the waistcoat etc. However, I came and still come across many suit with the Utility lable that in no way conform to this...
Before I list these on ebay I have a three hats for sale.
The first is probably a 1940s/50s Fedora. It is a fairly good size and made from a rough wool. An ideal country hat with tweed. It is a 7 1/4 stated on the label, but I suspect slightly smaller. It is deffinately to big for me though...
This went for increddible money

Can people tell me what the rarity or value is in it? I bought one like this for a friend a while back, 10 pounds in total. That one was an officers one and dated...
Often, it is very hard to know who pre-owned the suits that we cherish. If we are lucky, some do have a name, but mostly, names of obscurity. If we are lucky, we are able to find out a bit about the gentlemen whom the suit was made for.
One such suit I have is a charcoal grey/almost black...

A thread for those who own/love Riley motor cars. Please post. I know this is very specific, but they did make such wonderfully British sports cars in the golden era.

We put on a recreation of the BBC correspondents in Normandy in 1944.
The last pictures are in the Chateau at Cruelly, the room is the original studio where the 'War Report' broadcast was made from.
We were actually making recordings as well, and have some nice transcripts of the displats...
I am currently researching Rego Clothiers. I have, as of now always believed them to be quite a standard of the peg garment manufacture, with outlets doted over the country, and the bulk of their clothing made in Shoreditch (I think of the top of my head) in their factory there.
I have seen...
I am starting to scan in some of the images from a few of the 1930s tailoring catologues I have.
One of the images is continental and from a publication called London Styles.

I have been thinking today how prevailing fashions influence the uniforms of the armed services.
Perhaps this was more so in the 1940s when you had a large number of "Civilian Conscripts".
I have seen officers service dress with 12" width trousers, RAF uniforms with turn ups (Although...
Inspired by the thread "1950s Wardrobe" I thought it might be nice to share our 1930s wardrobe.
Perhaps someone can start a 1940s wardrobe.
So, Please post your 1930s wardrobe, what you would like and what you think should be in it.
Here is mine
and the summer wardrobe...

Hello ladies,
Having just bought an original copy of L'Officiel, I discovered this archive on their website. They have scanned in every fashion mag from 1920 onwards, and you can look and zoom into all the pages...
Pease can people help me. I am researching plus fours at the moment. I can not find any reference to Plus twos or plus eights in any contextual evidence being terms in common usage in the 1920s and 1930s. The Army and Navy Stores catalogue in 1935 calls them Plus fours, although it makes...
I have posted this Thread in Steamer trunk, but I would like some ladies of the lounge inspiration.

I was wondering, is it worth going to lessons, Or could I end up...
