That does look like a pretty dressy hat. You probably ought to get an open road style hat to go with it, for a more casual look in a true silverbelly by Stetson or Resistol. And a brown or tan hat might be handly.
Regarding shrinking, mine definately shrunk. When I got it, it was too big, but after a light steaming, and later getting it wet in the rain, my campdraft did shrink from to big to too small. I had to use the hat stretcher on it. So, in my experience, they come big for size, but get them wet...
I like a medium rake, but for me it takes a fairly tall crown to get it, and some of hats have a more level rake because there just isn't enough room in the crown to do more, it seams.
And then on a cowboy hat I have, which is a Resistol Black Gold, when I got it, it had a fairly low cowboy...
I too, have a Barmah crushable, which says in the top of the hat, Squashy Buffalo. I was told it was made from Water Buffalo hide, when I purchased it. Like you, I thnk the sizing could be better, but I actually tried mine on before buying and it has not ever shrunk or streached out, and has...
Wow! I never had the dye in the liner run before. The problem I have had is the dye in the felt run, and my black hats seem to be the worst, and my fingers will be black after shaping a black hat.
You may be right, I was not really worried about the feel, as much as appearance. I was looking for a smoother, slightly dressier, less fussy look, and I had read on here comments, about maybe sanding a hat, but not much did is see on how to do it.
I have one of the new Akubra Campdraft Deluxes and to my eye, the felt looks much rougher (fussy) then most of my other hats, but since this is a new and sorta expensive hat for me anyway, I don't want to mess it up. However, I am thinking about sanding it down to make it smoother, and I could...
All of my life. Heck, wearing a hat indoors is nothing, It's my house and I do it, anytime, I want, and always have, however, I often don't. But I have always worn a ball cap indoors, and do at work every day, in my office, as do most other people that wear a cap. If we wear a cap or hat, we...
Here in the south/southwest/heartland of America, Chivalry is not dead, at least not for the natives, however I can't speak for the transplants that have moved in here. But I will say that all of my life, I have never been told off by a woman for holding a door open, and usually get a thank...
I don't remember ever being called Indiana Jones, but when wearing western felts, I have been told "you look just like Charlie Danials" but always in a friendly way. I guess when I wore a full beard, maybe I did look a lot like him.
When I was younger, I would sometimes have some smart mouth...
It's odd how people's perceptions vary. I love the look of a Fedora on most other people, but it's hard to get used to the look on me, when I look in the mirror, because I have worn cowboy hats with 4 and 4.5 inch brims all of my life so even the Campdraft or Open Road seems small to me, but I...
