    Last Man Standing

Here is another example of a movie that I was crazy about when it was released, while the critics panned it (I was also a big fan of "Heaven's Prisoners", but then again put Teri Hatcher in movie where she's not wearing much--if anything at all--and you've got my attention :cheers1: ;) )...

Looking for book reviewer or Bobby Darin fan

How long's the book? If it's not too extensive, I'll take a crack at it. Don't get me wrong...I love to read--in some ways, that's my job. I've just never done a book review before, so I would be more comfortable with a shorter book to get my feet wet. I imagine the longer the book, the more...

    The Razor's Edge

Good choice! Although I've never seen the movie, the book is one of my all time favorites; right up there with "The Sun Also Rises." In some ways, I think "Razor" depicted the disillusionment of WWI vets better than "Sun". I'll have to check the movie out, now. Thanks for the tip.

Anyone know whats going on with COW?

Sheesh! I disappear for a few weeks... ...and the Indy / Golden Age community implodes on itself. :p ;) Just kidding. :D I just checked out Indygear before I came on here, and I noticed it too. I wonder if they're switching servers. Anyway, it's nice to be back posting here. Work...

    The U-505's New Digs

I was just there! On my train trip to Albuquerque last summer, I had a 7 hour stop over in Chicago. Now, I had already planned on visiting the Museum of Science and Industry, for the Indiana Jones exhibit, so when I got there and saw that they had a U-boat, well that was just icing on an...

    old school Crime Literature

My avatar says it all: Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer. You can find anthology editions of his stuff, with three or four novels in a collection. I've seen them at all the major bookstores. Another good crime writer--though not exactly vintage--is James Lee Burke. He writes about a New Orleans...

    The End of The UN.

YEAH!!! ROCK ON, REN!!! I just read that article, and all I can say is that it makes me want to go Tyler Durden on the UN building! We have to give the UN one of these: :kick: right out the front door. Where's the smilie for waving the American Flag?

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

Any Satisfied Customers? I see that they still have some 46L in stock. I'm tempted to buy one, but I have no experience with this company. Has anybody bought from these guys in the past?

    Orvis Cardigan: A Review

Well my Orvis shawl cardigan arrived on Dec. 11, and I've had plenty of time to give a few field tests. First of all, screen accuracy is not even an option as far as color--I ordered brown, and soon learned that their idea of brown is almost white  . Let's just say, blond might be a...

If I had to pick one girl from the golden era

I met Carmel Quinn, who was a singer/dancer for Arthur Godfrey. She was doing a reading of James Joyce's "Ulysses" earlier this year at a local library in celebration of "Bloomsday." She was a nice lady who spoke with a trace of an Irish brogue...yeah, she was cool.

Top 10 Books About the Lost Generation

I'm surprised "A Moveable Feast" wasn't on there. Sure it was written by one of the Lost Generation writers--Hemingway--but it's really a journal of what those days were like in 1920's Paris.

    Metrosexuals Vs. Just Dressing Nice

I just read an article recently that pretty much compared any man who cares enough about himself to wear nice clothes to metrosexuals--you know, that new phenomenon that happens to men who watch "Queer Eye...". The article said, "what's wrong with just wearing a baseball cap, t-shirt and...

Illegal Tender: New "Golden" Era Book

Has anyone seen this in the bookstores? It's on my Christmas wishlist, so hopefully come Dec. 25 I can post a review of it soon after. Basically, the books follows the 1933 Double Eagle gold coin that became illegal to own once the Depression hit. It was thought all the coins were confiscated...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

Yeah, and try finding one that has epaulets on the shoulders. I've been looking for a legitimate trenchcoat, not just a raincoat. But for some reason those two words have become (incorrectly) interchangable. Which ticks me off that people are so oblivious to the history of the trenchcoat...
