    The handwriting of everyday

My great aunt was born prior to WW1; she lived to be 91 and had lovely penmanship until the day she died

    A-2 Lining Repair

My 12 year old US Authentic A-2 still looks great, but I've got a few holes and ragged spots in the lining. The wear is all at the bottom of the lining, just above the waistband. Any suggestions for who might be able to repair this? I'm in So Cal.

    Magnoli WWII officer shirts

These look great! How do you like them so far? I've been thinking about getting one myself....

    9mm or 45cal

With proper ammo, a 9mm is an adequate defensive caliber. The military ammo is not too good for personal defense; you definitely need a hollowpoint, like Federal Hydra-Shock, or Speer Gold Dot. The .45 is a fabulous weapon; I love my 1911. The caveat is that you need to put a lot of rounds...

Driving in a suit or sport coat: Jacket off or on (and buttoned or un-buttoned)?

Depends on the coat fabric and how far I'm driving. I'll always remove a suit coat, where I'll keep a blazer or sport coat made of heavier material on (never buttoned). Same thing applies on airliners and public transit.

    Rifle Firing Position

The current name for the DCM is the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). I don't shoot rifle, but I know they are still very active.

Vintage Furs for sale - San Diego area

Hi, all: We are trying to sell two vintage mink jackets which belonged to my great aunt. First off, I apologize for not having any photos; the furs are currently in storage so I'm unable to photograph them. We have a Blue Iris and a Luirita (sp?) mink "stroller" for sale. These date to the...

How to get started in Fountain Pens

Starter Pens :eusa_clap+1 on the Lamy Safari and Waterman Phileas as "Starter" fountain pens; both will serve you well as everyday pens. My Safari, which I bought around 1988, just gave out on me, but the Phileas is still going strong. Can't say enough about the Pelikan 200; it's been my...

    Hat Stores-a list

San Francisco Hat Shops My wife and I are visiting San Francisco at the end of the month; we'll be staying in the downtown area (between Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square). Are there any hat shops in that area worth taking a look at?

Getting my US Authentic A-2-ADVICE ON DETAILS

I've got a US Authentic goatskin A-2, and I really like it. It's far superior to the US Wings jacket I bought and returned. US Authentic has an online form where you enter a number of measurements (they tell you where/how to measure), and submit your sizing questions. This typically gets you...

    The Pelikan Fountain Pen M800

John: Congratulations on the addition to your Pelikan collection-they are fabulous pens. I have 2 600s and just got a 200 as my "daily driver". Can you give me the address and contact info for the pen shop in Monrovia? I'm in San Diego, but I go to that area on business fairly often.

    US Authentic A-2 sizing

46R sounds a little big to me, although for your height, the length of the jacket might be just right. I'm 6'-2", 225, and have a 44 chest. Mr. Dover recommended a 46R in the A-2 (goatskin) for me, which I think fits great. (It will look even better when I lose some of the "excess" around my...

A2 and Navy in San Diego

You may also be thinking of Flightsuits/Gibson & Barnes. They are located in El Cajon, which is just east of San Diego, and by all accounts they make some very fine A-2, G-1, and other leather flight jackets. I don't own one of their A-2's myself (I have a US Authentic), but do a search for...

    Village Hat Shop

I've shopped at both VHS stores in San Diego; in my opinion, they both cater to the tourist trade, although the Hillcrest store has more stock. If you're going to be in San Diego, I'd recommend going to Western Hat Works on E Street downtown (on e between 5th & 6th). They have more quality...

    ll bean flying tiger jacket

The Flying Tiger jacket was my first A-2 style jacket (a gift from the lovely Mrs. TarHeel over 20 years ago). Gym workouts and other weight gain caused me to grow out of this jacket, which still looks great. I just gave it to my teenage nephew. I concur with all of the positive comments, but...

    A-2s for Weight control

I think any quality garment would serve as an incentive to maintain one's weight, but I'm also in favor of buying something that fits. I never saw the logic in buying a size smaller and waiting to lose that last 5-10 pounds before enjoying your new jacket, suit, etc. A-2's are good motivators...

    Help for picking fountain pens

I'm coming to this thread really late, but I've got to put in one more vote for the Waterman Phileas as a great "starter" fountain pen. I say "starter" because once you have one, you'll want more!! For daily use, I carry the Phileas, or one of my Pelikan 600s. Pelikans are great pens, and I...
