Triumph Motorcycles - Vintage but up to date!

On this side of the pond, here in the UK, we call this group of middle aged men ''born again bikers''. A while ago British Police were puzzled by the number of motorcyclists who just went off the road and were injured (some even killed). The bikers were all men who had returned to biking after...

Cirrus A2: What are your opinions?

Mark Basically the Cirrus A2 is a good looking jacket. It is heavy and of course (as per the original A2) only has the top entry pockets, not side entry hand warmer pockets. If you want an authentic A2 you won't go far wrong with it BUT if you are someone who wants absolute authentic detail...

    Some great WW2 motorcycles

I really don't know; I am guessing that they were French made, but I know little of vintage French bikes. Any clever person do let us know! Peugeot made motorcycles but this is a guess ! Casper

    Name the year?

For those that may be interested here is the website page for the memorial itself, built not far from Buckingham Palace London UK. The men from Bomber Command gave so much for our freedom. http://www.theygaveeverything.co.uk/The-Memorial.aspx Casper

    Name the year?

Worf, I think they did use nose art but the USAAF was the main user of the genre. I suspect that the art was as much to reassure the crew as state any ''message'' to the enemy as such. Often movie stars and cartoon characters adorned these planes as well as the number of mission flown or in the...

Triumph Motorcycles - Vintage but up to date!

Sled Dog, nice bike, a real classic. A lot of guys get fed up with the older Triumphs as they need a fair bit of maintenance. The new Triumph is taking the BMW GS1200 head on. It is the new Triumph Adventurer 1200 shaft drive. This is going to give the BMW a run for it's money. The Triumph...

The Germans did invade England - Shoreham airport Luftwaffe landing

I can understand that, but if scores of German troops WERE killed that would've been something to publicise surely? I'd like to know the truth of this one. Have you heard of Slapton Sands in Devon? A German E boat killed many US troops training for D day; it was completely hushed up for many...

    "Mein Krieg"

Yes i saw this a few years ago. Interesting to see ordinary films by soldiers in the field. The Germans were well aware of their behaviour in 1941 onwards in the East. This is why the biggest mass migration of Germans took place in late 1944 to early 1945. Many ordinary troops knew what was...

The Germans did invade England - Shoreham airport Luftwaffe landing

Shingle Street, myth or reality. But why classify it for 75 years? One thing that does come to mind is the Enigma machines, these were classified into the 1970s as some countries still used a form of Enigma encryption. Maybe a weapon was used which the British just wanted to keep quiet? I'd...

The Germans did invade England - Shoreham airport Luftwaffe landing

I'd never ever heard of Shingle Street. Did the Germans send a small group to invade? We should know about it by now though surely? I did google it to check on the story. Casper

British Army and USAAF - Allies circa 1943 - 45?

Matt , of course. I was born in the late 1950s. My Dad was in the 51st Highland Division (British 8th Army ''The Desert Rats'') and was atttached there as a morse code operator forwarding on artillery observations/spotters information. His cousin was over in the UK and I assume he was in the...

British Army and USAAF - Allies circa 1943 - 45?

You may be absolutely right here, as I never met him and he was always referred to as a ''pilot'' but he may of in fact been a flight navigator. Thanks for the observation! Casper;)

The Germans did invade England - Shoreham airport Luftwaffe landing

Sadly a couple of years before I took the ME109 at Shoreham a guy in a Hurricane had a tragic accident. I wasn't there then, but I guess it was summer 2008. Sad. Casper
