New Aerial Star A2, Incredible Steerhide, Great Cut, I Love It!

I just received my second Aerial Star A2 from Chris. It took an incredible 3 days to arrive from NY to London, very impressive even for USPS Express! I sized down this time to a 44 as I've lost about 25 lbs and the fit is absolutely perfect. It is absolutely the most comfortable, well-fitting...

New Aerial Star A2, Incredible Steerhide, Great Cut, I Love It!

Do post a review. Is it a russet? I'd like to see a review of the russet. Chris sent me a few pics (attached) and I think it's got some nice varied character but I am usually more a seal brown man myself. I'm tempted though. I'll definitely be getting another Aerial Star as soon as I can afford...

New Aerial Star A2, Incredible Steerhide, Great Cut, I Love It!

Just as a point to note re. sizing. I lost about 7 lbs so far since the photo and it now basically fits although I'm still nearer a 48 chest. No room for layering but wearable so check your measurements if you want a particular fit. As I'm planning to lose another 28 lbs at least whilst training...

New Aerial Star A2, Incredible Steerhide, Great Cut, I Love It!

I was encouraged over at the VLJ forum to post a review of my newly arrived Aerial Star A2 for all you Fedora-donning chaps. Hope you enjoy... Quick note...I've been buying repro A2s and posting on boards since 1996 but this is my FIRST EVER jacket 'mugshot' :o I feel that Chris at Aerial Star...

    Contacting Aero Scotland from USA

That's incredibly patronising. I'm not posting again on this thread so go ahead and have the last word but you have been very quick to criticise my manner and subsequently pretty patronising. I was clearly wrong about the 011 but I wasn't being rude, just trying to stop you wasting your time...

    It's not a rude tone I don't think. I'm feeling quite relaxed.

    Contacting Aero Scotland from USA

No no no! '011' is NOT correct, where did you get that from? Our country code in the UK (in full) is 0044 followed by 1896 etc. I never really understand why people write '+44' or just '44'. If you want to get through to Aero dial 0044 1896 755353. Is the 011 something to do with getting an...

    Restore my A2 jacket

Hi Sam, I read your book some years ago and it's an absolute pleasure to see you pop up here! I think I may have to go and read it again, I'm sure there were some interesting off-mission activities with a local girl if I remember correctly...:eusa_clap Thanks Tom

Why is horsehide better than steerhide?

In my experience it ain't that simple. You can get some SERIOUSLY hefty steerhide. I had an Aero steer A-2 circa 1999 and it was sooooo thick I couldn't move. I've also had thin, lightweight horsehide (eastman warhorse). Obviously this can be reversed also, my point being heft of leather is not...

Why is horsehide better than steerhide?

I would think Steer is cheaper because it's easier to get, ie, there's more of it. You can find tough thick steerhide just as you can find thin, flimsy horsehide. However it may be that weight for weight horsehide is stronger. Choosing a horsehide option won't necessarily get you a stronger...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Hi, can anyone shed light on the sizing of Aero and ELC Irvins. I take a 46 in an A-2 from both and wondered how the respective RAF sheepskins fit....snug or baggy or just right? Many thanks! Tom

    Do all FQHH Jackets Creak/Squeak

I am absolutely 100% certain that it depends on the finish. If the leather on the arm ,for example, doesn't slide smoothly across the surface of the body then it will squeak - same with the seams etc. The heels on my leather-soled shoes squeak a bit where the midsole moves slightly against the...

    PERRY A2

Wow it looks like a repro just out of the box! Really useful pics for me, thank you. In my quest for authentic repros I find it so much better to compare 'as new' originals to repros rather than comparing battered and beaten ones. I note the dark reverse of the leather on the zipper puller. If...

    Just received my ELC Werber

Estevan, I wasn't really recommending bathing the wool cuffs but being that it's a jacket and sometimes it rains, they do get wet and this seems to irradicate tunnelling as bit. I've never ever had a cuff or waistband shrink. If you soaked them and then heat-dried them they would but that's why...
