to make this slightly more on-topic for the category:
Has anyone else seen their concert film "Awesome; I F***** Shot That!"
If not, it is really quite tremendous. Not just because I think it may be the greatest movie title of all time.
Shows I'm watching on DVD these days:
Scrubs
The Office (US) season 2 (season 3 just came out!!)
Dilbert: The Series
re-watching Newsradio season 4
shows I'm watching a lot of on the TV:
Mythbusters
Penn & Teller: Bulls**t
Flight Of The Conchords
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit...
Yes. Very monstrous. Monstrously monstrous. Lox is a food group, don't you know? Especially from these guys. (I must say I'm biased, though, and living in Maine is advantageous... they sell their lox online for forty bucks a pound, where i can get a pound of "trim" - the ugly bits that...
This thread made me immediately think of Portland's beloved State Theater - an old movie theater and playhouse turned nudie flick theater turned modern concert venue turned... unused building. It closed most recently a year or so ago, but I think most Portlanders have no fear, it is our...
I can't believe that I forgot to mention this one:
Toasted bagel, cream cheese, chives, and lox. Though it only counts as a sandwich if you stick the two halves together, which I consider heresy.
I was wondering what everyone here does for a living... Do you have a job that seems like a natural extension of your vintage lifestyle? Or do you make a buck doing something that didn't even exist when your outfit was made?
I, for one, definitely fall into the latter group. I work for the...
now I REALLY want a reuben.
some other favorites:
- a "Maine Italian" - one of those regional oddities, like red hot dogs or the word "ayuh" - boiled ham, american cheese, green pepper, onion, tomato, pickle, black olives, salt, pepper and oil on cheap white rolls. Preferably from a Sam's...
John and Luray of Ebay seller Gridlesvintage, as well as their five-year-old daughter, were found dead in their home last night in an apparent murder-suicide.
I'm sure many of you, like myself, have bought items from them or admired their fabulous listings. I have had many transactions with...
Oooh, I'm gonna be in Austin in a couple of weeks... (Austin City Limits festival!!!) so I'll have to keep these hints in mind!
(And wouldn't mind a few more recommendations, if anyone has them...?)
I wear vintage almost every day (in mild weather, anyway), but I'm not a purist in the least. I don't really do my hair or makeup in the style. I'm generally seen in a vintage (NOT repro) dress, modern blazer (I wear a blazer every day, they are tremendously abused, so the true vintage ones...
mineral oil is miraculous, but not great if you get it in your eyes... plus i'm pretty sure it's carcinogenic.
but it does wonders for removing mascara!
there's an Etsy store called Gudonya, they make a fantastic shave bar called Baby Legs. It's a handmade soap formulated with clay and it is superb... really nice shave, and it doesn't gunk up the razor. I absolutely swear by the stuff... won't use shave gel ever again!
well agreed ladies, well agreed.
But... I think lots of modern clothes are cheap and trashy anyway. Which is why I wear vintage.
But on the occasion that I DO wear a modern top (say, in the winter, which here in Maine is the best eight months of the year) they seem so thin and low! Now...
Actually, these are the ones I bought:
Those other ones looked really comfy, but harder to fit into super-flat shoes.
These are very, very thin - maybe 1/2 inch at the thickest part, and it thins out to nothing just before the ball of your foot, but my lord are they comfy! They make all...
Absolutely. I LIVE in my china flats, but recently they've been awful on my feet/back/knees - I have rheumatoid arthritis, so it's not hard to get achy!
Recently I invested in a couple of pairs of Dr Scholls insoles... not the "I'm Gellin'" kind, mind you. They're specifically for flat...
