1920s apothecary opening-- design help needed

This is great. Thank you, all! I decided on a dark red/navy/mustard, sort of a rich color scheme, after researching the period. We'll see what comes of it. Maybe I'll be posting about the apothecary's grand opening in a year! :D

1920s apothecary opening-- design help needed

I was given the responsibility of designing a sign/logo and website (complete with style and color scheme) in the style of a 1920s pharmacy/apothecary for a store that is potentially opening next year (which will be era-correct as well). So, I need your help. What colors were in vogue back then...

Do You Know Any Living WWII Veterans?

I know quite a number of them: but they are, indeed, a fading generation. We have to collect their stories as much as possible as quickly as possible! They are gold mines of stories, information, insight into a life long gone which we will never experience. And folks stick them in nursing homes...

What year was this photo taken?

    AH-HAH! Now I see the light. Thanks for your patience, everybody! My brain is almost as slow as my Windows XP. {grin}

What year was this photo taken?

Mebbe that's what I'm doing wrong. I just put the image page URL in the box, when I ought to have put the image URL. Trying again: We now ought to see an undated photo of a great-great-great aunt of mine, and we'd love to get a year on this.

Shucks, thanks an awful lot, Dixon Cannon! Trying again, we ought to be seeing the Mystery Band here: Holding my breath.........

    George Hurrell 40s style photography

@Atomic Age Wow! Very well done. (re: the original post.) Sometime I'm going to wrangle our Canon Rebel XT and figure out how to do shoots like that. {grin} One suggestion on the second shot in your original post: I'm a bit over-analytic, but the way the vase is placed behind her makes it look...

What year was this photo taken?

*is upset that the pictures still aren't showing up* Ought I to start a new thread? I have a few family pictures that we need dated, too. One in particular, of a woman in a dress and hat, that we'd love to pinpoint a date on......but if I can't figure out this picture thing.....oy vey! I've...

    show us your lippy

Ooooh! I love the last one, the darkest red! That's the color I'm dreaming for, or close to it. Unfortunately I have to wear a more orangey red, but I wouldn't mind a red red. All I've got now is an awful shimmery plumish pink that is not vintage whatsoever. Uhg! But lipstick is so expensive, I...

Anyone Like Alternative Golden Era Music?

I wouldn't call it "Alternative", but I'm hugely into the Sons of the Pioneers and 'cowboy' Western music. Come to think of it, I would say they were definitely not alternative, because during their heyday they were the equivalent of the Beatles in popularity. *laugh*

Turning Photos of Yesteryear into Color (Photo Editing)

Do you use Photoshop? I have done colorizing with that, turns out pretty much as you've got here. I prefer black and white photos hugely, so I don't colorize my snaps by en large, just for fun sometimes. *laugh* Dolly

What year was this photo taken?

Yep, Dhermann, that's my Ken! Finding archives of the Garry Moore Show is a task. There are few--oh, so very few!-- clips online if you dig a little, but most of the archives are in private or college collections, and I haven't been able to obtain any yet. Don't get me started. {grin} In the...

What year was this photo taken?

Oh boy! Thanks everybody! This is swell. M0nk: is that wear and tear on the car, or is it frost and snow? I was under the impression that it was just ice from one of those nasty Chicago winters. And I guess I can't be sure that it was taken after 1939. That was something I guessed based on...

What year was this photo taken?

I hope this is the right forum in the Lounge to post this..(I'll hide behind the excuse that I'm new here). I'm doing a research project on the fellow pictured here, Ken Carson. He was a singer from the 1930s until his death in 1994. I'm trying to figure out what year this was taken, the...

    What are you listening to?

The Wayward Wind by Gogi Grant: I don't usually listen to much music that isn't from the 40's or earlier, but some 50's and 60's sneaks in! www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSPLSo3U46Q

What sparked your fascination with the "Golden Era"?

I've always been intrigued with 'old' music. I'm a songster, so I sing all the time and am constantly looking for good music to add to my repertoire. So when I discovered Roy Rogers's movies and the songs in them (Sung by the immortal Sons of the Pioneers mostly), I became hooked, and went on to...

Golden Era style for long hair

Oh! Thanks ever so much for the links. I was pretty sure I'd searched the forums for 'long hair'before I posted my message, but nothing came up. Maybe I mentally searched. :o Hee hee! Oh well. The links are swell! I tried doing some bandana waves last night, just to see if they worked, but I've...

Golden Era style for long hair

I look at the pin curl tutorials and think to myself that they would look really cute on me....then realize that my hair is about two times too long to hold that sort of a curl. My hair is almost down to my waist. Which I like, because then I can braid it and pile it on top of my head (I've got...

How about that vintage western look

Pat Brady was swell. I'm still miffed that he went and died so young. :D In this picture, we've got from left to right, top row: Hugh Farr (fiddle, bass vocals), Tim Spencer (vocals), Bob Nolan (vocals); bottom row, Karl Farr (guitar) Lloyd Perryman (vocals) and Pat Brady (bass fiddle and...

How about that vintage western look

Ken Carson sure was a classy dresser. Not that I'm biased or anything. ;) (Kenny's the one with the polka dotted neck scarf in the first two pictures....and seated on the far left in the third) Handsome fellow.
