On the WW2 thing, in black it does recall the general shape of a non-Wehrmacht panzerjacke, but the visible buttons distinguish it from that very clearly.
I'd like to see it in brown, which might give more tone variation, as for me the black renders it a bit blocky and severe.
Harris tweed, as Sloan suggests, is not a single thing - it's made in different weights and different degrees of density. Lighter weight, less dense tweed will wear and be subject to abrasion at points of contact with belt loops and rucksacks, etc. Then again the same thing will happen to a...
I guess 'tin' is a colloquial way of saying 'hard-wearing'. ... unlike all the other makers of true metal pants.
I'm not sure you'd make a convincing case under any Sale of Goods Act :)
Filson make great quality coats and vests. I've worn a wool cruiser most cold days the past 9 years, and...
"Most pre-war and wartime A-2s were constructed of horsehide, which was either vegetable- or chrome-tanned. Some original A-2's were made from goatskin (as was the Navy G-1 jacket), and others possibly from cowhide (which can be very difficult to tell from horse if tanned identically). All...
The jackets look good, right? They look a lot more refined than the AL/Simmons Bilt designs. I like the sub-trend for heritage US civvie jackets. But really, the nerve of these guys, starting a new jacket company without so much as thinking of asking permission here first.
Remembering previous...
Whatever you go with, make sure the thing is either completely free of stain and smell or removed from the cat's reach, as once they've marked something they tend to go back again and again.
Large fancy retail space in a narrow street in....London? I'm guessing Seven Dials-ish.
I've been playing on GeoGuessr recently and can't stop guessing locations...
Yep. Some design elements are integral. There is always the option not to buy :)
And I don't think I've ever heard complaints about the 'Ming the Merciless' look of a B-3 or ANJ-4 collar...or seen one of these with a less flamboyant collar.
I guess contributors occasionally forget this is...
No surprise a 30s collar looks a bit 70s: check these FL threads on the 30s in the 70s...

Man, I hate missing out! Maybe you're right. For some reason I was thinking it would be for bona fide purchasers to have their say. Right then, best foot forward...
Unfortunately, I don't lead the kind of exciting life where Kevlar-lined garments are necessary :D
I am resigned to a period of poverty while studying and can't join in with SJC. I want to get involved, but won't weigh into all the fun discussions about stuff I'm not going to be able to buy. A...
I'm not sure that current tweed is durable enough as a lining for a heavy jacket. It will abrade where it rubs against belt loops, jeans pockets, etc. I'm basing this on personal experience. I've a Harris tweed jacket six years old that's worn through on one side., probably from carrying a...
For sale, classic Burberry light tan / light khaki / beige knee-length raincoat. Very good condition. Great for being stylishly relatively anonymous in inclement weather. All buttons present and firmly secured, including rear vent. £50 plus postage. Would prefer to send folded double-wrapped in...
This very old thread - http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?11051-White-RAF-Roll-Neck-Sweaters - has some useful info on the difference between roll-neck and 'frock', especially first few posts. Might help to have some illustrative details.
Can't help with a pattern source.
Seb's about right. In relation to old stuff, other than wine, determining whether a [whatever] is "vintage" of its kind is pretty much an implicit agreement between people who appreciate [whatever]. It's not enough for a thing to just be old. There has to be some style to a thing or something...
I posted ^ before seeing your new jackets. Hard to tell without a close-up, but they look substantial. My Filson Mackinaw Cruiser, which is dense 24oz wool (I think), has been in almost constant use for about 7 years, and although the sleeves have given a bit and it's moulded to the bend of my...
