    Back-to-School disasters

    1980's nylon parachute pants. Not the baggy style that popped back up a little while back, the tight, skinny leg, be-zippered ones. I still miss them...

    Ha ha! It's a favorite. I know it's not a custom, but it's nice to know I own something an artist actually worked on. dv

    Vintage Silhouettes Custom Hats - Official Affiliate Thread

    Hi Art, I just noticed the Vintage Silhouettes sweatband in my vintage Mac Lachlan. It's a 7 1/2 that fits like a snug 7 3/8. Even so, it's one of my favorites. Does it look familiar? Maybe you replaced the sweatband at some point in its history? The imprint on the band is all compressed...

    The Stratoliner Appreciation Club {MODERN}

    I've got at vintage Mac Lachlan Stratoliner "clone" in a nice green color, but I'm hankering for silverbelly or other color that I can wear on the "off" days. I don't want to ALWAYS wear a green hat, hahahaha!!!

    The Stratoliner Appreciation Club {MODERN}

    That's good to know. I'm almost a perfect 7 3/8 in vintage hats, Dobbs especially, do you find these moderns fit similarly to the oldies?

    The Stratoliner Appreciation Club {MODERN}

    The felt question was the biggie, I'd like a softer hat. I can dig the size discrepancy - I might just go for it regardless. I've got my eye on one in particular online, premiere felt and in my size. So very, very tempted. Thanks for the input, gentlemen. dv

    The Stratoliner Appreciation Club {MODERN}

    Questions for the modern production Stratoliner Appreciators Is the modern production Stratoliner, soft-ish, with a pliable-ish brim or is is stiff and cardboard-y? How's the fit, is a 7 3/8 really a 7 3/8 or is it more like a 7 5/16? The reviews I've read say the hat is soft, but are they...

    On Ebay: 7 3/8 VTG Open Road

    I'm watching the auction - I've got a current production OR that I like, but I'm searching for a vintage that I can reshape the crown. How's the felt on your hat, is it hard cardboardy stuff like the new hats, or is it softer and more flexable? I am SEVERELY tempted. Thanks, dv

    Lots of my vintage hats on eBay 7 3/8

    I am clearing house on all the hats I don't wear. Green Fur Felt Royal Biltmore - really tight 7 3/8 probably would fit a 7 1/4 or 7 1/8, but it's tagged 7 3/8: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110711738251&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Oxblood (?) Knox with brim dye...

    Stetson Nostalgia Discontinued?

    Yeah, that's what I felt too, until I couldn't GET the vintage hats I wanted for the prices I was willing to pay. Every bid on eBay wasn't enough, or the hat was yet another brown fedora, or a stingy - of which I have plenty of each. I finally said "the heck with it" and ponied up for the...

    Unfortunate food, fortunately forgotten

    I suspect the way it was prepared had a lot to do with the flavor. Plus, I'm sure the freshness of the octopus would be a key to good flavor - the fresher (as in the Azores) the better. Not like landlocked Manteca, CA 60+ miles from the sea. dv

    Unfortunate food, fortunately forgotten

    So, here's some "food" for thought. My wife's family is 100 percent Portuguese - almost all from "The Islands" (the Azores). We were invited to her aunt's house for a birthday party or similar gathering. Her aunt had made OCTOPUS. Being the "try anything once" guy that I am - I tried...

    Boot Repair Question
