Thanks for those details and pics. (Sometimes I 'm too "big picture" so buffalo plaid + reversible + plus a few pertinent details = exact!). :)
This a great forum and lots of knowledge here!
I'm resurrecting this four-year-old post.
I found the same jacket just the other day. Deadstock condition (staples still in the pocket material like where a tag had been).
I think the one posted above is definitely post-1962 and pre-1977 (according to a Canadian trademark search, that's...
This is great thread.
It brings back a memory that one of the original respondents mentioned, about clothes suited for the worksite. There was a great thread recently from the member who posted a colleague's sheepskin gloves that the father had worn while flying bombers in WWII. I sent that...
Hmmmmm, very interesting Dinerman. I had been leaning towards 40s because of cut and construction. But now that you mention it - and thinking about the Made in England tag - you may be on to something. I don't think anything like this would be coming out of England in the 40s, either during...
Here's one I found recently. Not too sure of the age but appears to be an older label. It exhibits some wear in the usual places yet it's pretty intact, missing only a single button on each cuff.
It reminds me of this one on the right in Dinerman's catalogue picture (sans the lower side...
This sweater has the weirdest tag I've ever seen. The only tag, on the collar, says:
S M A L L
SALES TAX 610-1951
It's got really nice detailing and appears to be unworn. Vintage? Repro?
Interesting suggestion on the Williams Saddle Dressing. I'l stop by the local tack shop this week and see if they have it.
I'll report back with a review.
I saw some recent posts about soaking a leather jacket in warm water to rejuvenate it, especially when you've maybe conditioned the exterior but what's underneath/the interior is still maybe dry.
Has anyone ever done this with boots? I have some vintage leather work boots that keep soaking up...
I'm up on a lot of the labels - and did some remedial research on this one - but maybe I have some sort of brain problem here. Like with a jigsaw puzzle piece, maybe I can't extrapolate the whole from the part. :(
This is all that's showing. It's in the inside of a breast pocket...
This is a Jantzen polyester jacket with a great cut, an action back and really cool buttons. The label indicates late-1960s (as does the polyester!) but the design feels like 1950s or so. Any thoughts?
Tagged a 42 so too big for me but this is one of those little gems I see when searching for...
Spotted today in a pile of 78s which, by the way, seem to be becoming increasingly rare in the thrift shops these days.
I didn't buy it but thought it had an interesting title. Gene Austin wrote When My Sugar Walks Down the Street.
He's done more than alright. I read an unauthorized biography last year, Genuine Authentic. It was fascinating. A great insight into fashion, production, business, marketing, and to some extent "the mind" of RL. Say what you will, he had / has a genuine interest in clothes, especially the styles...
First post here. :D
I pulled out my grandfather's old horsehide jacket this morning because the thermometer dipped down to +1 C overnight. Everything is vintage and/or thrifted.
The jacket is my old "utility" jacket. I inherited it about 25 years ago. It's on its 3rd lining and about to...
Wikipedia, the font of all knowledge, has a great article on the origins of the techniques, patterns and styles.
