I know it was mentioned in this thread before, but for everything pin-up, check out www.pinuplifestyle.com. The collection of photos over there is amazing!
A great book to get and read is The Fashion File by Janie Bryant. She is the costume designer on Mad Men. It's a mix of modern and vintage inspiration, but is a wonderful "beginners guide" to building a wardrobe and finding your style. And like the other ladies said, start small and practice the...
Thank you so much everyone!
tuppence- my clothes come from all over. The sailor dress and Marie dress are cheepie costumes from hot topic, the peach nightie is vintage, the black dress is Betsy Johnson, and the corset is from Fredrick's.
BoPeep- www.pinuplifestyle.com has a ton of pinup...
I just tried on a few Stop Staring dresses last weekend, and the quality seemed very nice. Good stitching and hems, nice heavy material. A lot like Bettie Page Clothing. Not cheap like some other brands. I don't know what size you are, but I'm a size 16 and a 40D and the XL was too small. Even...
Over at www.pinuplifestyle.com our vintage forum focuses on the 50's and 60's (although we can always use more input, Loungers ALWAYS welcome). The site is all about the life style surrounding the pin up culture, from the 40's to the present. Feel free to check us out!
My boyfriend is just getting into vintage, and while I'm a 50's girls at heart, he is much more Golden Era material. I really want to surprise him with a "Beginner Wardrobe", but I'm not sure where to start. I've read through a ton of posts here in the Lounge, but I was wondering about advice on...
Skirts are always a great thing to have. A few knee length circle and pencil skirts will do wonders for your wardrobe. Also capris and dungarees (jeans) are great staples. I'm a huge fan of dresses, and although they aren't as versatile as separates, nothing makes me feel more "50's" then a...
Awesome season ender, I can't wait for next season!
MissJeanavive- I love the idea of a Bay Area Mad Men night. Maybe when it gets closer to being on again we can work one out?
Julie
Yeah, her dreams come true. So basically she knows the future. No wonder she was a politicians wife!
What do you guys think about the whole Syler thing? Him working with Noah.. I love it!
And I can't wait to find out more about the Nicky/Jessica/Tracy thing.
Me too. So much happened, it was hard to take it all in. But it was awesome! The new season looks like it's gonna be great. And we found out so much...like the fact that Syler doesn't eat brains, just pokes at them. And we finally found out what the Patrelli mom's power is, that was cool...
Where can i find some cute baby doll PJ's? I'm in love with the kind Annette Funicello used to wear. But I'm not having much luck finding them.
Figured you ladies would know best.
Yes! I'm so glad to have found like minded people. I was talking with a friend, and she was saying how she can't wait to see the show morph into that era. I was horrified!
The thought of joan burning her bullet bra sends shivers down my spine.
I just found this thread and am so happy. I love the show. I think my favorite part from the last one was that we found out a bit more about Don and Peggy's relationship. I like that they seem to be friends, or at least confidants. I do hope that the show doesn't move to quickly into the "60's"...
