Charleston Museum -- Swimsuit Exhibit and Couture Exhibit

I'll be seeing this in about 2 weeks. The Charleston Museum has a fabulous new textile gallery, and there are other clothing exhibits up besides this one. It's always worth a visit!

Anyone else collect vintage makeup? Post pics!

I recently got this mascara from the late 1920s, or very early 30s: I wrote a blog post about it and a little about the history of mascara if anyone is interested.

Ladies, this one's for all you flappers out there: A 1930's fashion show in color!

I love things from 1930, when you can still see the influence of 1920s fashion, but at the same time it's obvious that big changes are on the way.

Thanks ladies. It is actually made from a silk scarf, and based on the design of a Paisley shawl.

I love those deep pleats; much more flattering than a regular gathered waist.

    Imitation: Flattering or Litigious?

Actually, I was suggesting no such thing, and my comments were directed to no one in particular. I'm sorry if you took offense.

    Imitation: Flattering or Litigious?

If I were famous I'd absolutely want my name and image protected by someone I knew and trusted. If not for this law we'd have things like John Wayne Condoms and I Love Lucy Red Hair Dye. You'd not be able to stop people from transposing an iconic star's face onto porn. I don't see this as...

    The ones that got away

It's creepy to think someone actually went through your clothing! Marla's right, hopefully you'll spot them but then there's the sticky problem of getting them back.

I bought this cute 1950s skirt at my local Goodwill, and it wasn't until I got it home that I discovered its secret: Pedal pushers attached beneath the skirt!

I'm always looking for blouse patterns, and have been really partial to those from the late 50s and early 60s, like McCall's 4403, which is from 1957. It's version C that I was after, but those tight little sleeves where just not going to make it into the final version. So I used the...

Where Do You Find Your Lovely Pictures?

If it is an item for sale, I'd link and let the owner know. Most of the time they are very grateful for the exposure. Any other situation, I'd email first and ask. Better to be safe than to risk a mad copyright holder!!
