    Felt hats in summer..

I would definitely wear a fur felt hat before going hatless. I often wear my Akubras in 90 degree heat.

At what weather temp is it time to put fur felt to sleep for the summer?

I'm willing to wear felt, no matter what the temperature. Having said that, what hat I choose is dictated by my activity. If I'm doing something that requires an exceptionally tough hat, I wear an Akubra. If I don't need a "nice" hat and it's very hot and/or humid, I'll wear a Tilley. Smoking...

    Northwest Hats, Eugene, Ore.

Wow! Mike sure seems to do some nice work. I may have to call him about a beaver Stratoliner clone, instead of the Strat Premier I was thinking about for Christmas. Those prices are amazing.

Well, I was going to post photos, but I guess I'll have to figure out the goofy tapatalk ID thing first.

    Fedoras afield

Wow! Great photos, and it looks like you're having an amazing trip. My wife and I have got to visit Israel some day.

Akubras really are great hats. Probably the most bang for your buck with a modern hat.

    Stetson Outlet St Joe

+1 on the Akubras. I currently have a Cattleman and a Boss. I had a Fed IV for a couple years. All great hats and tough as nails!

    Stetson Outlet St Joe

Went to the Stetson Factory Outlet Today The one in St. Joseph, MO. It had been several years since my last visit. I have to say, I was impressed with their selection of nice fur felt fedoras! Sure it's the factory outlet so it makes sense, but last time I was there, the tiny selection of...

What Did You Drink Last Night?

Piraat Belgian Ale. One of the world's greatest beers!

What do you use to shave?

I fully agree that the brush is not something to go cheap on. There's a world of difference between, say, a drugstore hog bristle brush, and silvertip badger.

Of Sheep-Dip, Rot-Gut, and Furniture Polish. The worst of the worst.

San Miguel beer from the Philippines. So bad, I couldn't even finish one! In my case, that's saying a lot!

What is Your Favorite Hat Brand, and Why?

I vote for Akubra, hands down. They are by far the toughest hats I've ever owned, damn fine looking lids too. I would venture to say that Akubra offers the best price to quality ratio in the hat business.

What do you use to shave?

I use a Mühle heavyweight razor with Feather blades, Art of Shaving cream and a silvertip badger brush. Sometimes I use the AoS pre shave oil, but I don't see a huge difference either way. The feather blades make all the difference in the world. Sharp!

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Cowboy hats are very common here, so my Akubra outback hats (Cattleman, The Boss) fit in quite well. Straw, or cloth, trilbys are often seen in hot weather and so my Panama doesn't draw too much attention. Fedoras are another matter. People definitely take a second look at the Fed IV, or just...

This is a very interesting series of photos! Nice work! It really is cool to see how the fibers interlock.

    Some seriously good beer.

Boulevard "Sixth Glass" quadruple ale (again) and a Heineken. I never tire of either.

The Venerable Handlebar Mustache, Do You Own One?

I miss being a beardo. I had a beard for more than ten years, but now my choice of profession dictates shaving. I still have a mustache, but it's more akin to Tom Selleck than a handlebar. Way back when I had a handlebar mustache, I used Oregon Wild Hair mustache wax to keep it in place.
