There isn't anything that says "Whippet" to me in the historical sense. And it is definitely, without doubt, a Stetsonian body. But the hat doesn't have the Stetsonian ribbon; it has a Whippet ribbon. When some here have put mid or wide ribbons on their Campdrafts, others have argued that, at...
Okay, so I didn't actually wear this today, but this is from earlier this week. I took a chance on a hat from eBay seller sewmaster53. The box was for a Premiere Whippet that had been marked out and "Stetsonian" written over it. As best I can tell someone trimmed out a Stetsonian body with...
Long time no post, but I need some advice on the old size-up or size-down question. I am looking to get a campaign hat (think Smokey Bear, not Rough Riders). Usually I wear a 7-1/4, but measurement-wise I'm between a 7-1/8 and 7-1/4. And I've recently figured out that I'm an extra long oval...
I've wanted a bowler for years, but haven't really been willing to take a chance on a nice vintage one and haven't wanted to spend the money on a new one that won't fit right because I'm an extra long oval. Then this Resistol came up on ebay. I bid knowing it isn't highly collectable. I figured...
Great work, Terry!
Years ago, before you really got into reblocking and restyling hats, you asked about reblocking an Akubra Stylemaster. Did you ever do it? Or did you lose the hat? Inquiring minds want to know.
Going with the Southern "...after Easter" rather than "...after Memorial Day" (or the mid-May compromise of "Straw Hat Day") I'm sporting the Stetson Centerdent Panama I got for a song on Black Friday. The weather's too nice.
I haven't been around much lately, but thought I'd share this pic from our small town Christmas parade this evening. I'm in my Campdraft and my 6-year-old is in his Open Road clone (made by Stetson for Sheplers).
And I can't wait to see it 'cause that's what I think I want, too. The caribou looks light in some pictures online, but all the ones I've seen in person are too dark. But there aren't any good photos of the light gray in the catalog, so thanks for taking the leap, Fruno. :)
Thanks, RJR.
The colors on my monitor are pretty darn close to the actual colors. The tag on the box is labeled silver belly, but the hat is a warmer (browner) tan than my Campdraft. The ribbon and binding are gray, at least in the flourescent light of my office (I have yet to take it outside)...
Sheplers Own "Tulsa"
I picked up this "Made for Sheplers by Stetson" version of the Open Road for my son, who has been trying to take my Campdraft (he's five-and-a-half). It didn't want to give up it's cattleman's crease at first, but it's getting there. I just hope he doesn't try to tell me...
Took out the dogs, the compost and the recycling. Now I get to go to work. In the rain. I can't tell you how excited I am. No, really. Campdraft! Woohoo!!
I don't know if it's technically an "other" Open Road, but I've just bought a Made-for-Sheplers-by-Stetson "Tulsa" in silverbelly off of ebay for my 5-year-old who thinks my new Campdraft should be his. I found an eight-page catalog spread for Sheplers in an old Field & Stream magazine which...
Moon, if it weren't for the beard (I'm not advocating getting rid of it), you could BE Hank Sr in your avatar in that pic. It's like mirror images. Wow.
