Hey all
I have been after a Dobbs hat for ages and where I am in the industrial north of England felt hats were not exactly ubiquitous and so I struggle to pick up good makes, especially American ones. I've been lucky with a Resistol, a Knox and a Stetson and now I've managed to ac quire a...
Hi there Benny
I'm from and live in Huddersfield so a couple miles from Halifax. In fact both my kids were born in Halifax royal infirmary. Yeah I could only find the same info as you and the number is a random dead end I'm afraid.
Either way theyre nice suits and the green one is pretty much...
Hey guys
I recently was lucky enough to pick up two very nice vintage suits in a local charity shop where I live in Yorkshire. The little bit of research I've been able to do has revealed the tailors that made the suit were liquidated in 1950 and although they intended to trade under the name...
Hey there. I would think some hunting type braces would look good with that. Pike bros used to sell them, not sure about now. If you're going for a solid colour then tan leather ends would suit.
Hi guys
I have recently aquired a 1960's Royal navy reservists tie. I didn't know it was such when I bought it and as I don't collect millitary items I thought I'd offer it for a swap on here as I know British stuff can be sought aft er.
If anyones interested I'd like to swap for a cheap 40's...
Well said sir! That pretty much sums up what I intended to say. One of the benefits of nostalgia and adopting the fashions, culture (counter also) and customs of previous generations is, I think, being able to cherry pick the best bits and discard the worst. I can wear a '30s tie with a '60s...
Say, thanks guys! The 40s tootal is my personal favourite. The poplin although a very expensive tie in it's day (as they are now!) is, for me, just not a great fabric. I don't know why but it just feels 'wrong'. Weird!
Wow..that certainly is a 'statement' tie and in the right way as well!
A few more sedate numbers from me all picked up for a couple of quid each. late 40's tootal special quality which is really nice, a 40's Irish Poplin that has some nasty damage but luckily its right where I knot it. The...
Thanks guys. The retailer (Otto Fock) is opposite the resistol branding. The ticket under the sweat confirms the hat was made in Germany under license.
Hey guys
5 50's/60's ties for £1 on Huddersfield 2nd hand market. The slim navy one is 'resiline' which I guess must be terylene related! and the larger print navy one is labeled teylene, 100% polyester, ICI.
Hey guys, I picked up my first ever Resistol this week. It's a German made kitten finish stingy in charcoal sporting a 1 7/8 inch brim and a 5 inch crown that I managed to pick up for £10. Anyone got an accurate date for the hat? I'm guessing 1960's but could it be late 50's?

Hey Guys
Picked up my first Knox a couple weeks ago, a Canadian made 'SNAP-amatic'. It's very much the epitomy of stingy but I'm a small guy so I can get away with it I think!
Hey Guys, Picked up my first non UK or US hats this week in a vintage shop for an unbelievable £10 each. The Collins is a beautiful dark blue dress weight felt with a 2 1/8 inch brim and a 4 1/2 inch crown i'm gonna guess 50's on the brim width? . The Lembert, which I'm assuming dates to the...
Hi guys, really nice ties all. I picked up a couple this week in charity shops, the 2nd hand market and from a vintage shop for 20p, £1 and £1.50 respectively. The burgundy one is Italian, probably early 50's and tipped with black grosgrain ribbon, the striped blue one is made of 'resiline'...
Hi there Sol.
I was in a similar position to yourself 18 months ago and trying to find what worked for me. As someone earlier mentioned, I bought a few different styles of hat after starting out with cheap wool and then discovering for myself the world of difference in fur felt and then again...
