    Vintage clothing on Everest

Mallory date Great looking hat. Does anyone know why some Mallory liners say established 1817 and others are labeled as 1823? Thanks for any info. Jeff

    The history of Lee hats?

Lee Factory Hi: Just to add a little info. It was one of the many hat factories located in in Danbury CT during the peak of hat wearing. It closed in 1960 and burned to the ground in 1968. Lee made hats for retail chain outlets also, J.C. Penney etc. They made hats of various qualities...

    The good ol' summer time

Parabuntal summer hat Hi all: My everyday summer hat is a Borsalino Parabuntal. I've had it for about four years and it is a very, very nice hat. For those that don't know, parabuntal (sometimes spelled paribuntal) is an Asian straw, NOT paper. Mine is Phillipine straw, hand woven in China...

    Experience at Paul Stuart

Hat markings Hi: I have two British hats which have the same exact sweatband markings. Both are nicley lined, raw edge, and finished well, good leather. One is a Black Trilby, made for Burberry under the Christy's of London name. The felt is stiff, relatively lightweight, but not great...

    Compliments and other reactions

Hat responses Hi: I live in So. Cal. where most hats are baseball caps. I wear a fedora daily and always receive compliments from both women and men, but more from women. When I wear vintage new old stock people are amazed at their age and condition. I had one interesting reaction a couple...

Unusual Mallory, last minute on eBay 5/9

1817 vs. 1823 Hi again: It would sure help to ID the age feltfan. Mine have the union label under the liner, but as you probably know, the Danbury hatters unionized early. It seems odd that the centennial packet came out in 1923, yet my Aristocrat says 1817, I don't believe it could be a pre...

Unusual Mallory, last minute on eBay 5/9

More mallory Hi: According to Jeff Snyder's Stetson book, Stetson acquired Mallory on 8/16/46. The logo changed sometime after and not all were listed as affiliated with Stetson. I thought the red Mallory liner print was after the purchase, could be mistaken. I really like all the Danbury...

Unusual Mallory, last minute on eBay 5/9

Mallory I agree with JP, it not a particularly old Mallory, probably from the '60's. I believe it to be a post Stetson Mallory, judging from the liner. Check out the liner in the much older Mallory...

New guy with question about new hat

Cervo quality I own a 7 5/8 Cervo "Milan" I got on e-bay in unused condition. It is a terrific hat. I have never seen felt so lightweight, pliable, yet sturdy. The open crown makes it almost like a lined crushable. It's stamped "Handmade in Italy" and it feels it. I've talked on the phone to...

    What is considered a Fedora?

I don't want to know how literal people want to get but Webster defines it as: Etymology: Fédora (1882), drama by V. Sardou : a low soft felt hat with the crown creased lengthwise. American heritage is the same except adding the brim can be turned up or down. Pretty much as Matt said...

    New Hickory colored 25X Gladhatter

I couln't agree more with android and SHARPETOYS. The X's mean absolutely nothing in a new hat and you still have to be careful with older hats. It's like buying stereo equipment based on the specs instead of what it sounds like, ridiculous. Cheers, Jeff

    Finally got me first fedora

I second Mr. Powers, after Borsalino was sold in the early 80's and moved the factory, I believe they went way downhill. And they licensed some hats for manufacture in the US which are to be avoided at all costs. I also would try to go older than 20 years though, if you can find what you need...

    How credible is Biltmore?

Well they don't know geography, probably not great for a Montecristi either. Their upper end felts, Rosellini and the Grand Beaver are supposed to be good hats. Regards, Jeff

    New guy says hello

Hello Gentlemen: I can't believe it took me so long to find this forum. I have read most of the threads and have learned a lot. I appeciate the congenial and helpful tone eveyone has. I have a small collection because of my big 'ol 7 5/8 head, but I wanted to describe a few and perhaps get a...
