    Crazy Hat Cleaning Situation

Start with water/steam, that'll take the water soluble stuff. Naphta will only dissolve oil/grease.

    Best Crushable Hats

I tried a Stetson Merced in the shop and really liked the fit and the softness, compared to my stiff Akubras and it did return to shape after rolling.

Akubra without sweatband, is it a fake?

I've finally gotten it home and there is no sign of any stitching outside or in. I've almost removed all the grease from the front and also some yellowing, which I suspect to be salt from sweat, so after soaking it with cleaning gasolin(naphta) I soaked it in water and at the same time I did...

    What youngsters wear today

These are, to me, the worse kind of hats and the worse way to wear a hat. They look like their mother bought their hat and put it on their head. AND they wear them inside and in the middle of summer at the beach. No wonder women are taking over the world with "men" looking like that ;-)

What happened to the thread I was reading????

AND it showed that the vendor intervened even without being contacted by the buyer and offered resolution or money back. The vendor was following this site!

    Recommendation for Outdoors Hat

I have 3 Acubras and they look amazing but I find them impracticable, because they are so stiff. Maybe they're hardwearing but you can't stuff them in a pocket in your jacket or backpack. I am thinking of buying a Stetson Merced. Its crushable but also so soft that its very comfortable to wear...

A test hat from China for 4 $

An "investment" at 4$ ? :D I've had it totally wet and there are no colours running. I did call it a testhat though. I think its worth the 4 $ :)

A test hat from China for 4 $

I know this is almost taboo in this quality oriented forum but hear me out. If you don't have a hat and would like just to try it and, as more and more common, there are no hat stores nearby, you can buy a Chinese hat for 4 $ on ebay and try it out. The hat has never seen felt, can't be...

Has anybody made a block for exactly your head?

I have now gone halfways, no total mold but an adapted hat stretcher. I bought a hat Jack, put a (rather crude) ring of heat shapable plastic around my head and used this for modifying the Hat Jack to my specific headshape. I only had to reshape the front, the back of my head is apparently...

Hat Jack for European customers available

As shipping and tax for goods from the US can be prohibitive I sought for a European dealer and found Village Hats. The Hat Jack is 20 GBP and shipping to Denmark was 7 GBP. Its of course a lot more than the US price but still lower after shipping, tax and VAT. They advised me that they didn't...

Has anybody made a block for exactly your head?

Hmmm, I answered but the answer has disappeared?? What is a band block? It'll be too expensive calling the US, shipping conformer back and forth and sending a hat to Denmark where I have to pay 25$ handling and 25% VAT of the price INCLUDING shipping. Has anybody a photo of a conformer?

Has anybody made a stand for storing their hats?

:-) and on top of the 90$ I'd have to buy 20 hats more, to fill it up ;-) It would be impressive.

Has anybody made a stand for storing their hats?

The Akubra hats I bought had all suffered from being kept flat on a shelf stacked on top of each other, so, after reshaping them, I wonder if I could make a stand with exactly the shape they have now, including the rim. I t would keep the shape during storage but could also be used to reshape...

Has anybody made a block for exactly your head?

As my head is more square than all the standard oval hat shapes, I wonder what the easiest way to make a block after my head is? I would use it for shaping and sometimes blocking a hat but maybe also make a block for storing the hat afterwards. I am contemplating a plaster cast, an epoxy...

Repairing a 1940's-50's Panama with wavy brim

I would have the hatband fixed(I'm no expert but just looking at it I'd say the stitchings are visible, it sits too high, indicated by the nonfaded part of the rim) but leave the rest as is. It will look like you have been wearing that Panama all your life, that'll give "street cred" within the...

Questions about the Akubra Snowy River

    1. No, mine sits where it should, a slight push will even push it down so my head touches the top. 2. I think its very stiff, I've formed it with steam, and it stays in shape. I don't know about the "thump" as I don't have any "thump" cowboy hats :-) 3. There are only 4 single stitches around...

Anyone know anything about this hatmaker Daquino?

Are these hats soft or stiff? I mean the shape not the texture. Are they crushable?

Easiest, least "painful" way to cup a brim...

When reshaping my Akuras, I found that it was easier to prop a hat up against something, so it has the shape I want and then take my small trekking gas with a small kettle and place a plastic tube on the spout and steam the hat with the tube and then just leave it to cool and dry again. I found...
