Vintage Car Thread - Discussion and Parts Requests

My first Alfa was a '68 GTV. Of all the Alfas I've owned over the years the GTV remains my favorite. Love Daron's #3 Horst Kwech tribute car. I saw the real one race at Mid-Ohio "back in the day."

    DC-3 / C-47

In '67-'68 I had occasion to fly from my hometown of Ft. Wayne to Detroit several times in order to catch a connecting flight. At the time the airline (United?) was flying DC-3s on that route. It was always a treat to watch the startup procedure with first one prop, then the other, slowly...

New US Maker of DE Razors - great article

Neat story, but that sure is a lot of money for a razor, to my mind anyway.

    your favourite popcorn

White popcorn here. Indiana is one of the largest - maybe the largest - popcorn growing states so I have many choices of quality popping corn. I like salt and a bit of butter, though my wife is the salt police and gets snippy if I use too much. Sometimes I'll dust a tad of garlic powder on. I...

    Your signature cocktail.

Habanero Pepper Olives I'm a martini guy, gin, up. I generally buy queen olives in half gallon size jars. Recently I had a habanero pepper that was going to go bad unless I used it. On a lark I cut it in half, deseeded it and tossed it into the olive jar. After a few days the olives began to...

What do you use to shave?

Did you get the Merkur or the Jagger? Taking forever to shave is not a bad thing. Give yourself plenty of time and treat it like a trip to the "shave spa." I do a pre-shave hot towel, spend time building a nice hot lather and pick a nice after shave lotion or balm. It is a relaxing ritual. When...

Vintage Car Thread - Discussion and Parts Requests

Lizzie, your Plodge reminds me so much of my great grandads '46 Dodge, which he always referred to as "the machine." He was the worst driver I ever experienced. He thought the painted line in the middle of the road was where his left side tires should track and he held his position in the face...

    Vintage roadside

Matt, I'm loving your "discovering Indy" posts. I lived there till about '95 and watched the downtown grow from a sleepy city (NapTown) to a vibrant place with lots of nightlife. Fountain Square was just on the cusp of its revival when I left for the countryside. Keep it coming. Also, I need to...

    Old gas stations

Sorry for the confusion, 2jakes. Coincidentally, I live about 20 miles from James Dean's hometown of Fairmount, IN. I am also a former (long former) sports car racer so I am very familiar with the Dean mystique.

Commonly available jeans - higher waist?

I recently bought a pair of "Fire hose 5 pocket jeans" from them (size 38/30, sound familiar?) and quickly ordered a second pair. Adequately high waist for me. I added rivet style suspender buttons, also available from Duluth.

1984 Alfa Romeo GTV-6: I bought my first Alfa new in '68 while stationed in Germany and have owned at least one Alfa at all times since then. My favorite however remains the long gone original '68 GTV.
