    Panama Hat Trail in Mexico

She wanted about $180 at first, but eventually came down to $120. I thought I could still get a better deal with one of Art's hats. The finest hats were not all that fine compared to an Ecuadoran fino. I'd say they were like a good Cuenca. But they were very light weight and felt great on...

    Panama Hat Trail in Mexico

It's nothing like Ecuador. This market is just a weekly thing in Merida where they sell all sorts of handcrafts. I don't think the number of hats made here is anywhere near what they make in Ecuador. I think there may be an export market, but it's very small...KC

    Panama Hat Trail in Mexico

I just got back from 12 wonderful days in and around the city of Merida in the Yucatan peninsula. They make their own version of the Panama hat here. It is made out of a palm leaf and they can be quite nice, like a fine Quenca. They certainly don't the fine weave of a Montecristi, although...

Hats As Sun Protection, NOT Just for Bald Men

I started wearing fedoras years ago because I just liked the way they looked. But I am also very, very sun sensitive and the wide brim lid is perfect for me. Highly recommended by my wife also, who is a dermatologist..KC

If You Could Keep But Only One Of Your Lids...

Well, if I gotta choose... I'd really rather have two, one for winter and one for summer. BUT, if only one, it's gotta be my Adventurebilt... but if I can also have one for summer, it would be my Montecristi fino Panama!...

    Mexican Panamas from the Yucatan

That's what I thought. I saw a program on TV which talked about these hats and, although not the quality of Montecristis, they are not all that bad...KC

New Art blocked Monticristi from Panamabob

Beautiful Panama. I got one from Art/Panama Bob three years ago and I love mine. Nice ribbon, too!...KC

    Panama Brim Issue

It's a great problem to have. It shows that you have a really good fino Panama. If it didn't flop in the wind, it wouldn't be such a fine hat.

    Mexican Panamas from the Yucatan

I'm heading to Merida in a few months and that's near where they make the Mexican version of the Panama hat. Does anyone know how good these are? I know they are hand made and made from palm leaves, but I can't imagine they are anywhere near as fine as Ecuador Panama hats...KC

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Time for the Panama I'll tell you what. For the next couple of months I'm only wearing my Panama. Luckily, it's Panama hat season. Once the IJ thing settles down it will be fur felt time again. And I wear an Adventurebilt, which is as Indiana Jones as you can get. ;)

    Adventurebilt

I agree totally. I have several fur felts, but I wear my AB 90% of the time. It's by far the most durable, comfortable and nicest lid I've ever owned. If you order a custom hat from almost anywhere, I mean a truly custom, totally hand made hat, a 6 to 12 month wait is not unusual. Of...

    A Tilley Goes To Angkor

Anyone can go who wants to... It's not as expensive or as difficult to get there as you may think, especially Bali. Once you get there (about $1000 round trip), living is cheap. You can get a good hotel for $20 or so. Meals are $5 to $10 (for a good tourist restaurant meal) and even...
