So... I have this big European vacation coming. I am bringing a few fedoras and may buy a couple too. For the first time I am going to bring a non-foldable hat....my Fawcett. And for that I have my "PortaFedora" (do a google search of that if you are interested). The others will be foldables...
We are going to Portugal in early Nov. We will be in Porto and Lisbon (Lisboa) and some places inbetween. I love going into hat stores when I am on vacation. Any good ones anyone would recommend? We are also stopping in London so another visit to Lock & Hatters will happen.
Last fall I got this hat and I have not worn it much. On top of that I have a hat coming in with not hooks or hat stands. So this one has to go. I have listed it on Ebay here...
Over the last year I have collected hats and spent more money than I care to admit to. I have Vintage Borsalino's. Pocket Borsalinos, New Borsalino's, New Stetsons, a Muelbauer, an Art Fawcett, and others. Love them all. But then the weather got really cold and my ears were freezing. I...
Ok.... started to get really excited about Fedora's last spring. I got a nice Stetson fur felt. And from there went a little crazy between Panamas and Fur felt fedora's. I now have 13 (were from my European vacation).
I love wearing them. I love everyday I go outside and think.... what hat...
Ok.... I had to brag about my recent hat purchases on our trip from Portland to Chicago to NYC and then all over Europe. Most all of my friends could care less about my new hats but I thought this group might be interested. So I whipped together a video.
I did not get any answers with a previous post. Which may mean the answer is no. But One last try and this time with a picture. On Saturday I have one of these coming but with an open crown. This is one piece. There is not separate crown block and brim flange. Both are together. The...
I have a hatshaper coming from hatshapers.com. I got it for the brim shaping part. I have some hat molds and a stretcher but they only are for crown shaping. I have been looking for an old hat brim flange but have not found one yet so I Thought I would try this.
It looks like the brim...
I have been fascinated with these older Borsalino 'Pocket" hats. I have seen them folded or rolled into that triangular box and sitting outside the box after they have been blocked and or steamed back into shape. And the photos look great.
When I was at Vintage Silhouettes picking up my new...
I am still pretty new to the hat thing. At one of my first hat stores I was really intrigued with the folded or rolled hats. It seemed like the perfect solution for all those moments when you are like " where am I going to put this hat".
I talked with the salesman and he said the folded...
Are these guys ok?
I orded a fino back in late May and got the hat in mid June. It took about 2-3 weeks. The packaging was poor and was crushed. The wood box was in pieces. The brim was too short than what was advertised. The Crown looked shorter than the picture. I ordered a non-leather...
I wanted to protect two rollables that I am bringing on a big vacation later this year. I found i could roll my hat and fit in a 3" mail tube but I had to roll it too tight. THe at would fit comfortably in a 4" tube but two 4" tubes would take up a lot of room in my suitcase. I saw on the...
I just got a used Borsalino Alessandria. My first Borsalino. It arrived tight. Too tight. So using posts here, I used some leather conditioner on the sweatband. After it dried I steamed the hat and then used a hat stretcher. I was amazed how easily it stretched. In fact it was a bit on...
I am retired and have just discovered Fedora hats. I am liking my first purchases and am looking for more. I have a steamer and have successfully done some reshaping. But if I am going to be a "Fedora Guy" then I want to wear my hat wherever I go. I have read posts about restaurants or...
I really like my new Stetson Runabout fur felt hat. I wear it in the classic front flipped down look.
But here is the question. About where the turned down portion starts, above the ears, it is a discontinuous curve (sorry I am a retired engineer). If I flip it all up, front, sides, and...
Bit the bullet and got my first nice fedora. A Stetson Runabout Packable Fedora Hat. I asked about rolling the hat for packing and he said sure but eventually it would look like a rolled hat. I also asked about how the hat did in the rain. He said it was fur felt and would do great..... but...
I am new to this forum and the subject of hats from the golden era. But I am facinated with then rollable fedoras with the triangular boxes and really want one. I am guessing that they are a bit rare and probably pricey but I still want one. Not that picky on color or style as long as it is...
I am looking for a good quality Foldable, Packable,Rollable or Crushable Fur Felt Fedora. Does anything exist like this? And if so where can I get one? Thanks
