    Embarrassing Moments

I was wearing a vintage inspired, circular cut skirt (all the better for swing dancing in!) one day while in the city. As I stepped out of the train a huge gust of wind blew the skirt completely up and into my face, giving 9 other platforms of commuters a good view of my smalls (luckily I was...

    Flying While Wearing Vintage

I've set off many metal detectors with my jewellery...I went through a punk phase in my teens and always forgot to take my jewellery off. There was one time flying to Sydney where my silver bangle set it off...I regretted wearing doc martens boots on that flight as they had to come off...

    Nutrition and exercise!

I started going to the gym again this month...I was a bit slack last month over the christmas period and put on a few pounds, but I'm trying to go 2-3 times a week. I usually do cardio or weights, and pilates once a week, and am slooooooooowly losing the weight I put on. It kind of helps that...

    Perms.

I got a perm last year just for something different, and it turned out pretty well. I have dead straight, very thick hair which usually refuses to hold a curl so was unsure about how long it would last, but it's been fine (I've since had it redone and am due for another next month). I just asked...

    Vintage hairstyle secrets: the fingerwave!

Wow, dancesofvice, you look absolutely stunning! I want to try fingerwaves some time.

Do I have to curl my hair to be vintage accurate?

I ended up getting a perm last year...I have dead straight hair naturally, and it would never hold a curl for more than a couple of hours, no matter how much hairspray I used. My perm is only wavy (and needs redoing soon because it's growing out) but I've found that my hair now holds curls...

    Vaseline

My mum swears by vaseline. she slathers it on her hands every night and has the babiest soft hands ever. I on the other hand am too lazy/forgetful to wear hand cream and that coupled with bar work at the restaurant has given me very rough, dry hands. Maybe I should vaseline them. I used to use...

    Do you go Commando?

Ahh, I getcha. Thanks Josephine :) (I don't know if I could wear them though. I like my cotton undies too much!)

    Do you go Commando?

What are tap pants? The only time I've gone commando was, like a lot of the ladies, when I was doing ballet, and wearing tights and a leotard. When I stopped ballet and took up tap we didn't have a uniform so I'd wear black leggings and a t-shirt and undies underneath :) I can't stand the...

    low heel heights in shoes

Oooooh, those Grasshopper shoes look so cute! Can you buy them online? I've never seen them in Australia. I pretty much only wear ballet flats and canvas sneakers (I'm a fan of converse) because I have a bad back and heels tend to wreak havoc on my lower back. I've never tried Keds, although...

Any other gals growing their hair out?

I've been growing my hair out since the beginning of 2007, when I had a very arty asymmetrical cut, with the short side about an inch long in little layers, and the long side about jaw length in layers. I had to keep trimming the long side to even out, but now it's just below shoulder length. I...

What would you love to wear but have not?

I would absolutely love to find a waist high pencil skirt, but as I have a 27 inch waist and 40 inch hips, I cannot for the life of me find one that fits. My mum just gave me one of her old ones today, a beautifully cut cream knee length waist high pencil skirt, but while it fits at the waist...

    Vintage eyebrow shapes

Ooh, I like the middle ones. To be honest I only started plucking my eyebrows last year...I was never that aware of them, until I actually started grooming them. At first it was just getting rid of stray hairs, but slowly I've gotten a bit braver, and recently I started trying to shape them...

    show us your lippy

By sheer coincidence, I found a tube of Revlon Wine With Everything on my mum's bathroom counter this evening, so gave it a try, and it is a really nice colour. I'm going to wear it tomorrow :D

    Best hairpsray ?

I'm a big fan of Schwarzkopf Silhouette...have used it ever since I was a little girl for my fancy ballet exam/performance hairdos. Granted, it can make your hair a little stiff and crunchy, but it holds like nothing else, and is the only thing that will make my hair hold a good curl more than...

What made you fall in love with retro beauty?

My love for 40s and 50s style really only started a couple of years ago but I've always liked vintage fashion...I guess I've worked my way back through the decades. In high school I was something of a social misfit and 'alternative dresser' (we only had a couple of 'casual clothes' days a term...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Hey MegamiOrchard, probably the best place to go for 50s/rockabilly style clothes is Route 66, which is in the city. I can't remember the name of the arcade it's in, but it's on the corner of Flinders Lane and Swanston St, opposite the police station. There's also a Retrostar vintage clothing...

    What are you wearing today??

Wow, Marty, that whole outfit is fantastic, but I especially love the colour and pattern of the tie. Beautifully photographed too :)

    What are you wearing today??

Wow, there are some amazing outfits here! You gentlemen wear some fine suits. My outfit by comparison is nowhere near as...sophisticated, and none of it is actually vintage - this is just what I wore out today for a job interview at a cafe and a casual dinner with my boyfriend.

    Bandanas: Okay, or dorky?

I wore a bandanna like a headband today, because my curls from yesterday are falling out and I needed something to hold it in a bit :) I wore it like a headband, thus: I'm still a bit shy to wear it out a la Rosie, but I'll probably have to at some point if my hair's in pins :)
