    Hat stolen!!!!

This goes back about thirty years so I'm not sure how good my memory is or if it is still the case, but in Bavaria men wore felt hats with big tufts of chamois hair on on side. Someone explained to me that the tuft was very expensive an so men never removed their hat when they were out. That...

    old-fashioned hiking boots

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/archive/index.php/t-44538.html I've been looking at this recently for hiking boots, not because of style but because of quality and fit. I think the older style is better made and I have a narrow fit that I can't find a modern narrow boot. To summarize the above...

    The Filson Thread

I wore my Filson bush hat on a week long backpacking trip this month and was very happy with how comfortable and practical it was, I had expected it to be too hot. But at the end of the week the leather hat band was pulling up at the end where it is glued, not stitched together. There actually...

    Optimo south side mobsters

Mine is the same, except the front is just over 2". When I was looking at them in the shop i noticed how brim widths varied in the same hat and requested that the width in the front be at least 2". I'm a long oval, so I suspect that has something to do with the brim being wider on the sides...

    Optimo south side mobsters

I just got a milan from Optimo, you'll be very happy with it. To tell the truth, I can't remember right now how the brim edge is finished, I think its raw? Hats should fit some what loosely, so don't pull the tape taunt. I would imagine that the crown height is something they can work out...

    Optimo south side mobsters

Call and talk to Tiffani. But a good portion of the value that Optimo provides is that the hat fits your head and your face. That's hard to do over the phone.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

I just bought a pea coat from an army surplus store after reading this thread. I was there in January and they had a ton of them at $150. I figured I'd come back in a couple months and they might be marked down. When I went back there were only 5 left, and two of the five were women's. And...

    The Umbrella

Watched part of the original Around the World in Eighty Days last night. It has to be one of the great umbrella movies of all time. I think it won an Oscar in that category.

Perhaps shake was too strong a word. Now that its been open several times and hasn't been stored closed it opens easier.

    The Umbrella

Here's a quick review of the Brigg umbrella I just received from J Peterman. I'll compare it to a stick umbrella I bought from Brooks Brothers several months ago on sale for $75. The Brooks umbrella was nice and operated smoothly, but the stick was not very strong. I could easily hold it at...

    The Umbrella

I haven't visited this shop yet, next time I'm downtown I plan to. I've seen it listed as carrying brigg umbrellas. http://chicago.metromix.com/style/store/worth-and-worth-loop/135866/content

    The Umbrella

I got mine ordered. That knot idea sounds good, although I can't imagine getting it confused with someone else's Brigg out here in the hinterlands. Did it come with a cover? I expect not, but there's a dealer in Chicago I can visit if I really want one.

    The Umbrella

I don't know whether to thank you or curse you Woodfluter. $200 for an umbrella! This has been on my "long term" purchase list for some time. It just moved to immediate.

    The Umbrella

I bought one of these last week on sale for $85. It's not a Briggs, but its a one piece stick umbrella and for that price I figured it was worth checking out. When I get it I'll try to post a review.
