Whaddaya do with yer lid while on a plane?

Just took two long flights, one to Germany and another to NYC. I use the overhead or even put my hat on its' crown on the floor in front of me. I also put an unfolded handkerchief under it if I put it on the floor. Same trick works for restaurants. The hat, by the way, was on of my Open...

    Connery’s “Allan Quatermain” Hat

Helmers are good people - they have been oin the hat business for several generations. You'll note the old Stetson hat ads on the wall of the store in Portland - I traded them to Helmers for a great Biltmore straw.

    Howard Hughes Stratoliner

Saddens me to see that wonderful airplane end up that way. Could some anitque ariplance society adopt it? I was at an airshow this satuday in santa Rosa and the local club and adopted a B-26 that was rotting on a farm.

    Personal Heat

Good question. Among other things, I use to teach and write on this stuff. I used to tell my concealed carry students that if they ever actually used their gun the only person that would be worse off than them would be the guy they shot - expect to be sued and/or indicted.

What IS the best modern production fedora?

Hi, The Akubra Territory is sandtone. Yes the brim is large, but that is why one buys it. This is a real no nonsense hat. The size of the brim makes me reflect on the whole idea of hat size - ornaments etc, this hat has some romance/legend/image about it. Think of those marvelous...

    The Rakish Angle

Hat tilt is very interesting. I claim that if you are right handed it should tilt to the left - the reason - it enables you to drop head to the right to get your cheek down on your rifle stock. Same thing when you ride a horse, the reins are held in the left hand so you can hold your sword or...

    The Open Road Guild

Straw Open Road Looks good. Will any of the professionals take a crack at it? BTW just scored this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8273843239 It doesn't have a lining, but I think I can take care of it. My fourth OR - probably small potatoes but fun. I love the...

The BWANA arrives! - First pics.

Wonderful hat! It would look great in Africa. Oddly enough I was at a sporting goods trade show in Germany last week. I was wearing my Borsolino Alessandria (mentioned in another thread) and had a long conversation with a South African friend of mine deeply involved with hunting. He loved the...
