Hey friends, I am a fedora newbie and I really like what I see in the mirror when I wear my dress fedora with an overcoat or my „traveler“ fedora with casual cloth. I have seen some comments in this forum that a lot of you are wearing their fedora 365 days a year. BUT I really would like to...

    Temperature under a hat

Hello friends, great what you find out with your measurements! Up to now there is no big difference between the different hats. Now I am very interested in the temperature under the different hats on a hot summer day when the sun is shining directly on the hat.

    Temperature under a hat

Hey Steven, thanks a lot for this information. Is your info about helmets or hats? White reflects infrared radiation (IR) but not ultraviolet (UV). Black reflects UV but not IR. That’s the reason why in theory both reflects and absorbs more or less the same amount of heat. But for sun...

    Temperature under a hat

Yes Daniel - corona is the reason I have time to do such stupid things ;-) My thermometer is too big to put between head and hat and I don't have a fur felt. But maybe here are some other crazy people with plenty of time to do other tests. Eg. black felt vs. white felt fur felt vs. wool felt...

    Temperature under a hat

Yesterday it was a boring day - I had too much time. So I did a test which temperature is under two different hats when the sun is shining. I just put a thermometer under a white cheap paper hat (they call it panama but it is not) and a black wool hat. Temperature in shadow was just 17...

BTW - I would also like to know if a cooling towel works inside a hat (because it needs fresh air for evaporation). This is maybe an other study ;-)

AAAAAAAAHHHHHH - shure - we do a scientific study about the temperature inside the different hats! We just need to wait for warmer days. ;-)

In this forum there are some discussions, whether in the summer heat a felt or a Panama is better. Everything I've read so far is subjective. Has anyone measured the temperature that develops under different hats in summer heat?

Hi, I have now started wearing hats. The first was a fedora with a 2 inch brim just for dressing up. My seconds is a fedora with a 3 inch brim as protection against rain and sun. Both are from the same company. They sell the first as a mid / winter hat and the second as lightweight summer hat...
