So just an update: I just ordered a new Rough Rider Loden from Australia, it only cost me 115 Euros (I live in Austria) including shipping. Should arrive within 2 weeks. The hat is so nice, I'm not sure whether I'll actually have the heart to modify it, but if I do – where should I post... -

Thanks guys for all the useful feedback. I'm sure I'll be able to replicate the look with one of your tips. I checked out the Campdraft and it does seem similar, although I suspect that even there the brim may be to small. My head is pretty big, so the RM Williams will probably not fit the bill... -

Interesting – that would be great, since I am a sucker for Akubras. What makes you think it's an Akubra, though? Just curios. I think the most difficult part is the brim shape – it has this angled or flipped down brim (not sure what the proper name is), where the front and back are bent down... -

Thanks for your reply! I totally agree in terms of the Fed IV – but looking at some photos of the Adventurer model, it seems quite close. I thought maybe the different sized hat band gives the illusion of a different sized hat. So maybe the Adventurer with a smaller hat band looks larger? Hard... -
